My headshots...

I recently just had my headshots done from a friend. I didn't like most of the pictures due to a problem in one my eyes, but these two shots turned out okay.
What do you guys think? Any opinions on the photos? Are they good enough quality?
What's the better out of the two?

*BONUS* Guess the age and I'll give you a cookie.

Well, to be honest they're fine, for what you paid (free), so they'll work for now. It really depends on what you're after. These are more geared towards commercial and modeling. These are awefully close to what is called a 3/4 shot, which is primarily for com casting, however you can use them for whatever if it's all you have.

Also, the industry is quickly turnng to color, outside of NY which is still using alot of b&w headshots. For LA however most CD's and agents are looking for color these days.

For theatrical shots, they usually are tighter on the face. But like I said, don't sweat it these will work for now for TV & film (kinda). But once you get some dough, go get some pro ones done and follow the industry standards (gosh, I can't believe I just said that).

Anyway, nice shots :)

My gosh, you look like a youngster there! heh!

Your hair is kinda strange in the first one, but okay in the second. If course, if you were going for that particular punkish look, then good job! You might want to have one serious-ish, non smiling and one showing your pearly whites.

oh, that reminds me two quick notes, never wear a logo in your headshots, it's distracting and takes away from the face, which is most important. And to second what thartley said, always, always have a nice smile. These are cool for dark, punk, edgy., alternative type roles but not the norm.

(man, I need to stop living in Hollywood)

All the pearly whites ones didn't turn out so good thanks to my eyes being all f***ed up. Mostly these would be for any commercial auditions I'd be trying out for and to give to any agents who would want them. Personally, I think the second shot is better and is probably the one I would use. 3/4 shots are the ones all my friends in Vancouver have been giving out to their agents, so I figure'd that's what I'd get done.
If I get a little bit of extra work here and there I'll definately be upgrading.
Thanks for all the comments so far.

Monte, guess his age not his demographic group

I'm guessing eighteen, but you look like sixteen. Then again, it's been forever since I was that age and everybody looks sixteen now.

Way to work that product, MC.

I'm guessing 19.

Haha, I'm actually 21, but you guys are pretty close. I had someone tell me I looked 12. :-/

That's not how I normally wear my hair, I'm a hat guy, but I told 3 girls I needed some nice hair and this is what they came up with. A little bit too punky for me but I'm not too concerned. :-)

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.

its hard to tell when not in 8X10 -- they will be 8X10 eventually right?

B&W is for stage mostly now. Don't know about Vancouver -- but don't go B&W in LA.

can you up the contrast a bit

if they are for commercials -- smiles are recommended although I don't show teeth in mine either

The shallow depth of field helps make them look a little more pro

If they were cropped to 8X10 with a alittle contrast they would probably be pretty good

White borders are popular and while not necessary for a preofessional look, they can be another touch that can make decent photos look more pro.

here's a friend's:

he said he was 21 but I could totally see him getting cast in junior high -- which is a good thing

that dude on Party of Five that was Jennifer Love Hewiit's love intrest was 30 playing 17 and she was 17 playing 17 (and they got to make out and stuff)

In my best Butt-Head impression:

"That'd be cool to go back in time and make out with Jennifer Love Hewitt when she was seventeen. Heh heh..." :cheesy:
