I just bought fs700+odyssey 7Q+rig not long ago and finally received ALMOST all items to complete my set.
Here are some pictures showing my fs700 set:grin::
IMG_1078.jpgIMG_1080.jpgIMG_1082.jpgIMG_1083.jpg
So what is included:
1. FS700
2. Odyssey 7Q + 2 x 512GB+ 2 x 256GB SSD
3. 7Q battery plate from westside AV
4. 7Q Hood from westside AV (still not useable, cause i dunno why it doesnt come with screw, wonder is westside AV mistake or my seller mistake, it only come with battery plate screw, and these screw are not useable for the hood because it is too small)
5. The rest are tilta rig+accessories (top handle will be exchange for the newer version because old one will block fs700 screen)
6. Still waiting a longer SDI cable to work better with 7Q while on shoulder and monitor at side of fs700

My first thought and test:
1. FS700- GREAT video camera, if u want i mention cons, i would say it is big size and heavier! not so idea with handheld/shoulder shooting without external evf on side and no 10bit internal in this big size and even external output. Highlights Fringe problem too. Other than that I'm still happy with the performance(especially slow motion) and price for it, can't find 2nd camera that can match overall price and performance like fs700.

2. Odyssey 7Q- AWESOME recorder! Turn fs700 into another level of video camera! BIG LIKE for it! CONS?
  • a. still wondering if it is possible to record 120fps/240fps in 10bit with at least few sec buffer i will be extremely happy(cause raw file are too big), unless they come out with compressed format of RAW file, if not 240fps just fill up drive rapidly, not ideal for long shooting.
  • b. no fast motion recording option mode for time lapse yet
  • c. import custom LUT for odyssey 7Q will be more flexible for user need
  • d. compressed format for 2k and 4k RAW for longer recording time
  • e. 120fps in 4k! (i know it's coming, but i hope it 100% will coming!)

3. Westside AV items

  • a) 7Q Hood from westside AV (still not useable, cause i dunno why it doesnt come with screw, wonder is westside AV mistake or my seller mistake, it only come with battery plate screw, and these screw are not useable for the hood because it is too small) but from what i see the quality of it is OK, still need wait to screw it onto 7Q to see real performance to judge it
  • b) Battery Plate: OK performance, quality im not sure if it can be solid or not and long lasting. Attach or remove battery not so steady but it's fine for me. Screw behind the 7Q works well, but if want change position it take timesss to unscrew and rescrew to another side.

4. Tilta rig+ accessories

  • a) Tilta fs700 kit (cage) - It is great! Very very solid and like the design of it. Weight of it is OK, heavier than movcam a bit but a lot lighter than camtree fs700 rig a lot(which i almost decide to buy because of low price) BUT you really pay for what you get, MOVCAM expensive, but lightest and SEXY, Tilta price is OK and like robot, camtree super cheap but heavy.
  • b) Tilta handgrip - Like the design, very transformer LOOK, performance still not bad, but still need to keep adjust to find the most comfortable position and setting for the handle. Would like to customize it by putting fs700 grip on the right side of tilta handgrip, or wait for future get a much better/more function handgrip to use with it
  • c) Tilta follow focus: Good, very solid and smooth, able to adjust 2 different stop on it for easier doing focus by just concentrate looking on the screen. Need to play more with it to see again.
  • d) Tilta lens support: Working ok, nothing special about it, only use it while using long lens.
  • e) Tilta shoulder pad: Looking good, Solid, still need use it more to judge it, but so far so good, working normally.
  • f) Tilta matte box: GREAT! like the design! very clever to make into small pieces put into beg more easily and it is light weight
  • g) Tilta monitor arm: It is solid, however it may not be easy to readjust position like other GREAT monitor arm, it cannot hold 7Q very easily take times to adjust it. When i got extra $$, will faster replace it with better monitor arm that can change position much more faster while on shooting in different angle. NOW just use what i can use about it =(
Shooting with fs700 on shoulder opinion:
With full set shooting on shoulder, it is EXTREMELY HEAVY! But i will get rid of using matte box while on shoulder shooting, but without matte box it is still HEAVY! They are just too front heavy and it make both of the hands so uncomfortable. But moving shoulder pad to more center of fs700 helps a lot, and i try add some weight behind of the rig to balance the weight, it really helps and more comfortable especially for hands, so i decided to purchase V-mount battery putting behind of the rig to balance it. But i'm still finding a good V-Lock supply power for fs700+7Q, thinking of getting tilta V-lock but still really cant find the cable working between fs700 and tilta V-lock, only saw cable to battery kind. V-mount battery i will get V-mount adapter for Sony batt, much more saving $$. I will look for faster attach and remove baseplate as well on tripod, now i using manfrotto slide in base plate, it is not working good at all, very troublesome, the BIG heavy rig make it hard to slide in and out smoothly! Which waste a lot of my time in it! With this BIG SIZE, i hope everything can work with each other more smoothly and well.

So overall i'm happy with it, just the heavy weight of full set cant let me stand for continuous long shooting, i need train up some strength! And not happy with baseplate attach and monitor arm now, hope possible to replace it as soon as i can! And faster get a V-mount solution to balance the rig! A7s let me heart beating hard to get it, but need $$$ for buying some lighting and drives first. Maybe wait for next nex a9s?/dslr light weight camera but with KILLER performance, able to record 10bit, slow motion in 1080p and of course all the cine profile that having in fs700! I think i just can't shoot wedding easily by using fs700+ odyssey 7Q, i need a lightweight camera for doing this and bring along with me all the time for some random shooting.

Very nice rig! I like the looks of the Tilta Rig handle a lot, and that it has the cold shoes on the front and top.

How do you like the LA-EA2 adapter with that Zeiss lens? I have the LA-EA2 with the Sony 16-50 2.8. But i find the AF to be pretty jumpy. It could look worse than it is because there seems to be some focus breathing. So the whole image seems to jump around. I thought of trying other lenses, because i'm not ready to give up on fast AF just yet.

Hi, thanks for showing your setup. I'm about to get an FS700 and 7q and am exploring options of mounting.

I think getting a good rig is a very important investment for a expensive video camera like fs700. Not only save you much more time and more easy for shoulder shooting, it also protect your fs700 well. I fall my fs700 and 7Q from table to floor this afternoon shooting! My heart melt luckily 7Q hood and tilta rig protect them without damaged. I still waiting some of my accessories to come and customising the edelkrone evf holder for 7Q. Tilta monitor holder is not that good, if u want to change the view angle of it or change the position, you need both hand to adjust it, not really recommend it but it do have pros, can mount it in different angle and position to view and control ur 7Q which very useful for me while my fs700 is on high angle shooting on tripod.

The handle is good, but i still waiting my new tilta handle replacement for this old one. Old version handle will block the fs700 screen, but new one is taller so it wont block.
I still didn't use a lot the LA-EA2 adapter with my A-mount lenses in AF, but will try it next time. Yeah, did some test i think it is jumpy but which is really much more faster than E-mount lenses. I think it is good for slow motion especially high speed animal or sport shooting, which the jump AF will not be obvious but giving more fast and accurate AF than E-mount lenses. I found that few of my E-mount lenses will not lock the AF easily to the subject, sometime it still will keep swaping focus very fast between background and the object which i see very clearly in slow motion. Sometime using manual focus with push auto focus is better to deal with E-mount lenses, but E-mount lenses having focus transition function i found that it is quite useful in some kind of shot.
