My FS-100 will not play nicely

I'm pretty much at the end of my patience, I'm either being completely dumb or my fs-100 or hvx200 are broken in some way.

I've set them up exactly as they're meant to be as per the manual and yet they still will not play nicely together, by which I mean they are showing no signs of recognising each other at all. I've checked the settings so many times I'm going blind and yet when I press the record button on my HVX nothing happens, nada. They both just sit there blinking at me.

On my HVX screen I have the 1394 thing up on the left hand side and a flashing red P2 with a line through it above, is this meant to go away when I have the FS connected and working?

I have no P2 cards to double check the HVX in that respect but it records with DV tapes fine.

I'm beginning to think something is just broken. (I've tried 3 different firewire cables that were all working on other cameras fine) Oh I also did the firmware update from the Focus site, made no difference. On that note is there any way to check if my FS is automatically detecting the settings from the camera as the version 2.0 manual says it should?

Any help would be greatly appreciated or I'm going to stamp on my FS and just use tapes until the end of time.
 
It sounds as if you have 1394 control set to Both instead of Ext. Try making certain your 1394 control (sorry.... on the HVX) is set to Ext.

According to the set up I should have it on Both, which I have had mostly. I have set it on external a few times just to try and it just flashes up with: EXTERNAL 1394 DISCONNECT when I hit the record button.

Bad sign?

Update:

I managed to hook it up to my XLS1 and get some random .DV out of it with some made up settings, so it appears my Firestore at least works. Just not in an easy and useable way with my HVX :(

If you have it on both, then it will try to record both to P2 card and to FS-100. If you have no P2 card, then it doesn't have a P2 card to which to record. Set it to Ext if you have no P2 card or if you do not wish to record to P2 card already inserted in camera.

....how are you triggering your FS100?..... Try pressing record on the FS itself. You should get the same 1394 and red dot WITHOUT the line through it.
