SHORT: My fist film

I've made my fist film

Not what I was expecting hehe.

I'm at work so only had a chance to watch the first half before the boss walked in. I saw a couple of good looking establishing and transitional shots in there and the title sequence was great. A couple of your actors looked very comfortable in front of the camera, a couple of others a little awkward. First thing I would suggest is a bit more effort dressing the sets. The library scene had a good background but the lounge room with the wooden floor was all white walled and empty looking. Some lampstands, pictures or even a rug hung on the wall, some things to personalise the space or even just mess to make it lived in would go a long way. Second I'd look into learning more about exposure, particularly as it relates to different skin tones. Congratulations on your first film. It's awesome you've got so many people willing to get involved in your project. Treat them well - they're a valuable resource while you're learning.

I haven't watched the whole thing as i'm falling asleep while writing this. I'll watch the rest later. But I wanted to give a few comments incase I forget.

First of all, you are very lucky at your age to obviously have access to decent equipment. The image quality is nice. The opening scene with the photo and the water was very well done.

Secondly, by far the best actor you have is the larger kid. He is obviously a natural at this and you should take advantage of his talent while you can.

Overall I would say from what i've seen it's uncommonly good for someone your age. There's a nice handle on cinematography and the acting is above what you would expect from people that age.

HOWEVER, and this is a big however, the music editing is terrible. It randomly cuts in at completely unnecessary and awkward moments, it overpowers the dialogue sometimes, etc. I think the film would honestly be better if you just took all the music out. As is, it all but ruins what is otherwise a fantastic first effort for someone your age.

More later.
