I shot my first wedding a few weeks back. You can find it at [www.midnightskyproductions.com]. Please be kind....I come from more of a musical background. I just started learning about video in January and only had my camera for three days when I shot this.I'm nopt trying to make esuses.I just know I will do a few things diferent next time.(birng a tripod, a white card to balance with, more than one battery and tape)

Re: my first wedding (24p)

A lot of the shots seem washed out...is this in the original or is it part of the compressed file?

Be careful with transitions, I think the fade in and out is a little over done. From what I can see, the transitions last longer than the visible shot.

Yes, white balance was definitely an issue in the dancing scenes more than others. Not sure what settings you were using to shoot but there are ways to tweak the camera to compensate for low light situations.

I think overall they are nice snapshots of the wedding but a little more time devoted to the shots probably would have been better.

We all need to start somewhere and I think this is a good effort. You have already learned some important things and you can only get better from here.

Good luck with it.

Re: my first wedding (24p)

Thank you, I thought The Water's Edge was shot with elegance.I enjoyed watching it. I don't understand when you say washed out. Do you mean the colors seem dull? How could I fix this?More time to setup shots would have been nice.
It was so last minute.I can't believe anything came out of it.I try to make my shots move with the music. At times I ran out of good footage due to shaky hand syndrome. This caused the long fades .I don't care for straight cuts in this type of video and transitions without fades jumped alot.(that was one down side to slowing 24p footage)Is there any way around that?

Re: my first wedding (24p)

What I mean by washed out is that your blacks look like grey and it negates a rich image. You can fix this in your NLE by manipulating the levels controls. If you analyze the histogram or equivalent, you will see that there is no information at the extreme black end.

You can do this in Premiere and I'm sure other NLEs but I don't know those other programs to direct you to the equivalent tool. Usually you can control this sort of thing in the color correction area of your NLE.

Thanks for the help. You have launched me into a new stage of learning.I like being able to re-evalueate my work with others opinion's.Seeing the work that floats around this place leads me to believe I'll learn a great deal. Thanks again!

Re: my first wedding (24p)

I agree with Disjecta. But like you said this is your first shoot. It would have been nice if you could have done some inside scouting and ran some w/balnced test shots with all of those windows. Practice makes perfect and I believe you'll do just that.
