My first short (using the DVX100B)

Greetings,

I'm relatively new to the dvxuser community, as this is my first post, and I've only had my camera for about 2 months. I've spent a lot of that time just trying out all the settings and exploring the many features of the dvx.

I recently picked up some lights - nothing fancy, just some clamp lights to try out some different setups before investing in more serious equipment. After goofing around and shooting some random footage using the new lights, I ended up with this one minute video:

Check it out and let me know what you think...

Hey Eddie. Good job. You're doing exactly what every aspiring filmmaker ought to be doing: making films!!! Keep it up.

The most important thing is to keep the scope of your productions very small in order to avoid logistical and/or financial obstacles. Just like this short film, use people, places and things that are readily available to you and make the best of it.

One more encouragement: just do whatever the heck you want to do. I spent way too much time trying to make "correct" films, but there is no such thing. Just do what you want, but try to learn as much of the basics as possible, e.g., composition, lighting, sound, etc.

Peace,
Christopher

That's the plan... just trying to have fun while learning the basics.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I was wondering because the one thing that distracted me was the interlacing. Did you set your timeline for progressive? (by changing the field dominance in the sequence settings to none)

Did you set your timeline for progressive?
I'm using Premiere Elements 3.0, and I'm not sure that it has a timeline sequence settings option.... I might be wrong.

I did export it out of Premiere as a .mpeg2 at 24fps progressive - though I don't know if that's an effective way of maintaining the 24p capture from the dvx...

yeah there was slight interlacing that I noticed right off the bat. Check your timeline in Premiere. Also IMO im all about .mp4 container with h264 codec.

BTW great short

I am using Pemiere Elements 3.0 - probably pretty outdated now but I'm still just learning some basics before I upgrade to a more full-featured package (probably Premiere Pro). So far I haven't found a timeline option for switching between progressive/interlaced... Also, the export settings don't seem to allow for MPEG4 or the h264 codec...
