My first short - Grabs from the military scene!!!

I've always wanted to shoot a movie...then the stars got aligned and now I'm shooting my first short 35-45 minute short. It's a self-discovery film about a guy who doesn't have much of a family struggling to find one.

This past weekend, we shot a military scene (yes, you guessed it, he's a Marine) and here are some grabs. I would love to hear from all of you (most likely all of you have more experience than I do) in terms of composition, coloring, etc.

I'm still working on the CC so the colors might be different on a couple grabs. Any comments towards a preference would be awesome.

Thank you.

Thanks for all of your views and comments! I'm going to dedicate this film to DVXUSER.COM!!!

Nice guns... I wish I could get my hands on stuff like that in Singapore. The guy looks pretty badass. Composition looks ok to me, and I dig the 'nitty gritty' look you gave the 8th grab. The earlier ones could def. benefit from some cc. However, some of them seem to be rather grainy. I'm not sure if it's intentional tho... eager to see some video in action.

What kind of guns did you use? Are those airsoft replicas...didja steal it from the army?

Malcolm -

Thanks, two of those guys are actual Marines so the gear was real. The guns are weighted plastic prop guns I found at a place in hollywood. We rented each gun for $15 which covers it for 3 days....sweet deal...THANKS JIMMY!!

Yeah, I'm going for the grainy look but a controlled grainy look. I was opting for the CC on #8 and #9 as well but just wanted to see what others thought.

I'll post a clip here and there starting from next week.

Thanks again

Looking good there, especially if it's your first short. Kind of a risk doing a 35-45 min short if it's your first? I haven't done anything that long and I've done over 50 shorts.
But if you know what your doing then I guess you just have to do it :)

Good lookin' grabs.

I like 4, 6, 9, and 10.

The grain looks alright but most of them still need a lot of CC.

Looks really good, nice guns! I like the composition and colors, looking forward to seeing some footage. :)

I like the private ryan's look myself, a little more washed out.
Maybe this soldiers are too clean? no sweeting or 2 days beard or dirt or camouflage make-up? I don't know, it depends on your script I guess, mine it's just a generalized comment on how we are used to see war movies, but really I never been in any war to be sure of how it really looks.

cheers

Yeah, it would've been better if we made the marines dirtier...but since the scene is only a small training sequence, I felt like it wouldn't make much of a difference how dirty they were. However, if you do watch the actual footage (which I'll post soon), you can see that they are sweating profusely.

Thanks!

i felt like it was missing a "color tint" or "bleach bypass" it feels too "studio" for me, other than that it looks really nice!
