My First Reel

I've been applying for summer internships and I had to put together my first demo reel. I'd love to get some feedback from you guys and gals.

I'm also using this as a test to see how well my new hosting service handles video. It's 25mb, so it shouldn't take too terribly long.

Looks good. But it just took a while to download...or maybe its just the weather over here thats causing it to be really slow. ...its raining....

I signed up with 1and1 last week. I've got to try to get out of my contract with them. I called them and they said that they "don't support video." What is that even supposed to mean?

After probing the web a little deeper, it looks like lots of people are getting screwed by 1and1 and their not doing anything to help. This is going to get hairy.
 
Slow? I've just downloaded it at 0.5mb/second - and that's fine by me! Nice reel TC, how'd you do the moving lights across the guy's face in the car?
 
I like how you broke down each step in the shot compositing.

That's wierd. I've been using 1and1 for ages without trouble. (Heck, most of DramaFest was served from 1and1 servers, and it ran faster than ever!)

It almost sounds like 1and1 is having some tech difficulaties with bandwidth or something. I'd give them a couple of days and see if it improves.

Downloaded at a steady 38+K. Roughly 15 mins total. (25MB)


This is just my opinion. Just a couple things caught my attention but were very very minor.

1/ The ball with legs needed some motion blur. Looked like
static still images tied together. Primarily the first of three shots. The rest
looks okay.

2/ Guys in the car fooled me. Good job.

3/ Girl & cc was good.

4/ The mini guy needs shadows on the table. Even if the lighting is accurate,
shadows sell it more. CC and chroma keying is excellent though.

Pretty minor things.That's all that caught my attention. Otherwise excellent job.

not sure if it really showcases your results as in "Look what I did!". But it rather shows your skills and how you have good methods of goign thorugh everything step by step.
It looks a bit more of a "making of" than a clean "promotional" peice.

That beeing said, I think it looks very cool. And I do like the fast paced breakdown that shows you know your stuff with compositing.

I bet they are having some routing issues today to some ISPs.

I like the animation stuff looks cool!

No, I'm not at AM. I didn't make the models, but I'm pretty sure that they were trying to emulate that style.

That was actually done practically. I was holding a 650 fresnel, and just moved it in a circular motion to give it the streetlight effect.

It does have some motion blur on it already, but I'll try pumping it up and see if that helps give it that little extra finesse.

Again, there was some cast shadow on the table, but perhaps it needed to be darkened. I was worried that if it were too deep it wouldn't match the shadows of the other objects.

Yeah, that's what it was meant to do. I'm trying to get an internship, so I want to make sure that I show my thought process so they know that I actually understand what I'm doing.
