All done with GH4, took me many months to film and edit. But I am very pleased with the outcome.
Any thoughts and suggestions how to improve etc, would be welcome.

Only music was requested and I think the music fits very well.
A lot of people these days are doing them like this. For example Ferrari factory tour is done the same way with only music.

Thanks for feedback! Appreciated.

For example Ferrari factory tour is done the same way with only music..

If it's the video I'm thinking of, it was done that way because of budget.

Numerous others that were allowed to video inside the factory have a VO track included.

The last time I was at the factory security pulled aside someone from Japan that was attempting to secretly video the factory with a hidden camera.

Well, there is also Fiat who has done this way. There are no rules in corporation videos.

The thing about ferrari and fiat is we know what they do.

Palms? Is it bits for the space shuttle or can I phone them up to make me a new baseplate for my rig?

If I can why should I?

I agree with some of the others that you have some very good shots. Good composition and movement of the camera. Overall the editing was at a good pace and showed a variety of shots that fit well together. Overall you did a great job matching the color and look of each shot. Camera work is very well done with good focus and attention to detail. You are a good shooter.

Couple of things:

1. Lighting seemed a bit dark. It was consistent so I'm wondering if you color corrected it that way. Lots of contrast but a bit dark. Consumers notice dark video more than any of us would like. Most people can forgive noise as their eyes do not see it as much as we do but darkness they see right away.
2. The music drove me nuts. It was fine for the first 30 seconds or so but it was too loud and intense. Sure this is an industrial company but they are not murderers and a track this dark can leave people with a negative impression of the company as being dark and sinister. Its just that for 4 minutes I'm beat over the beat with this dark intense music without ever having a break.
3. I agree about the use of VO or something. Having worked with international video for many years and currently working for a global manufacturing company I know what its like but honestly there has to be some kind of information for the viewer. You can keep it to a minimum if cost is a concern but honestly good VO is not all that expensive these days.
4. Titles or other information explaining whats going on. I know manufacturing better than I care to admit and even I was scratching my head trying to figure out what the purpose of the video was. Is it some kind of marketing piece? Right now its basically manufacturing porn with no story. Lots of great shots and eye candy for those who understand manufacturing but nothing that really explains anything about the company or whats going on.
5. Its a bit long. Four minutes is not a bad length when there is a story or message, something to pull the viewer in and intrigue them. Right now its just a collection of amazing shots. More like a demo reel sort of thing. Nothing wrong with that but four minutes is a long time to keep a viewers attention span. Its hard to keep the attention of viewers where there is a message and valuable information. Its even harder when its just a great collection of shots. If your audience is other film makers they will see value in your shots but customers and people who buy the products of this company will put little thought into your shots.
6. Maybe chapters or breaks would help. There is a reason why books are written in paragraphs. It helps the viewer keep track of what they see by breaking things down into smaller sections. It allows them to pause and reflect on what they just saw and get ready for the next segment. This is kind of where a script/VO and titles would help a bit. Show the manufacturing process in stages and break those stages into segments so the viewer understands the process a bit more.

Hope the feedback helps. I was a college professor and taught a lot of graphic design and video production classes so I tend to give involved critiques instead of short responses.

The images look great. But I find it way too long without any info or interview (like 3 minutes too long). Also, the music, why so intense? It's not a trailer for a Hollywood action movie. A bit of info and more appropriated music and it would be awesome!

What he said!
Seriously, Thomas is right on...couldn't agree more.

If I had to describe this video in one word it would be "Process".

Would this be accurate in describing this video?

The video seems to show the Process behind the company's Purpose using non-verbal communication?

This articulates a lot of my thoughts... much better than I could have myself. Very good constructive feedback.

Great job, you know your way around the camera and can come up with some fantastic shots.

I agree with Thomas as well. I usually come up with something long like this for my clients, then work it down to <2 minutes, preferably.. <1 minute for a "commercial" if the client allows.

It all depends on the goal of the video and audience watching it.

Great shots.

Loved how you didn't try to steadycam (ie, shakycam) everything.

The "grade" is quite nice.

Didn't really care for the music... too... "Terminator 2". And the edit didn't really 'flow' with it, either.

Use of titles might have been beneficial.

Finally - the transition wipe you did at :02 and around 2:00 - kill those. They looked amateur. Use a hard take or a straight dissolve.

I also agree it went a bit long; after around 2:30 I decided I'd seen what there was to see and stopped watching.

Overall, good vid!

shots look beautiful! what lens and lighting setups did you have?

I agree its long for something with no talking or interesting story to it. I assume you arent in control of that but I would also cut a 1 minute version with more cinematic movie trailer music that is cut much quicker. Seems too much like terminator meets EDM music festival.

If you cut it like a movie trailer you could have simple text come up every 10 seconds or so that is one sentence or less explaining what they do. Switching text to a different language with an AE template wouldnt take much time to change and you could charge a lot more for different language versions.

great job though, havent got my gh4 to look that nice!

Wow, so many responses, Thanks guys! Gonna try to reply to some.

1. Most shots were taken in spring (the weather here is dark) and others in summer. In spring shots I had to have the aperture always opened. In the end when it came to color correcting I either had the choice to make the shots brighter to match the couple ones that had better light, but this often produced noise. So instead I decided to make the brighter shots darker to match.
2. I had a mellow one before but it cost a lot of money, so I had to find a replacement track. After trying many stock songs and tracks, this one sounded different from the bunch. The others were just too typical, so I just decided to go against the grain.
3. Before shooting it was agreed to just have music and to look artsy. If there is gonna be a next one it will have a VO.
4. The purpose was to show how the process goes inside the factory. Not many factories have those kinds of robots and machines here. (Im in Estonia.)
5. The original cut was 2 minutes. But the client wanted longer. Many versions with different lengths were made and this one was chosen as the final version.
6. The chapter format would work well indeed, especially when coupled with a VO. Gonna keep that in mind.

Thanks for feedback!

At the final stages of editing I had to find a new track because the original pick turned out too expensive. After going trough different sites and labels in stock music this track kinda left a mark. At first I thought its too Hollywood but when I tried it on the timeline I ended up liking it.

If I had to describe this video in one word it would be "Process".

Would this be accurate in describing this video?

Yes, the focus was on the process. The video shows more important steps in the making of the parts and in the end you can also see how the product is put together and loaded onto the truck to be on its way.
Yeah it was agreed that there will be no VO. As they say "show, don´t tell."

Great job, you know your way around the camera and can come up with some fantastic shots.

Thanks for your kind words! The first cut was 2 minutes long, but they wanted it to be longer. The first one was like 1:40 something, second was around 2 and then it went from there. In your response (especially the "if the client allows) I read out that you often have clients. Can I ask how you deal with clients if your vision does not match theirs. Like the say the client is always right? I mean what do you do in a situation where you offer your vision and approach, but it is not accepted and you are told to do it differently. Do you flat out argue about it or what?

That was outstanding! What a great job! I wish I had you around when I was editing my film and I wish the GH4 was out when I filmed it. What a sharp picture. Here's the link to a quick action scene in my film, Valor Rising: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwcLis4_JUs

Thanks! The link is removed, but I saw the scene in another thread (also the trailer). The fact that you made a film and are trying to distribute it yourself on Amazon instant and other pages is very inspiring and you gave me motivation to start working on a short as well. Btw. It would have been great to co-operate on your short!

Thanks! Yeah you are right about the effects. Tried to mix it up a bit, but I guess the simpler the effect the more effective it is rather than being distractive.

Thanks! Natural lighting from the sun and the lighting inside the factory itself. The lenses were Rokinon 12, Leica 25 and Oly 45.
If I have time maybe I will upload the shorter version as well.
Yes I now got myself templates for text as well, thanks for the advice!

Nice piece. Great look. I'll echo three comments you're hearing a lot:

1. WAY too long. I checked-out and skimmed through it. Use your short edit you already made for your reel.

2. Music just doesn't fit the visual content or style. The tone is wrong.

3. Those fake motion wipes stand out in a bad way.
