My first music video...comments please...

Just wanted to get some feedback on my first ever music video. I shot with the 100a and edited on Vegas. Don't pay attention to my website...it's a work in progress, and unfortunately the compression on the video is not that great (I'm an amateur), but you get the idea. http://www.24kblack.com/index-3.html

Any suggestions on how to get better quality video playback?

Thanks.

Re: My first music video...comments please...

well. there are some really great r&b videos that you should look at. one that i can think of is LL cool j's "hey lover" video. the biggest problem i think with your video is the lighting, or lack of lighting. right now it doesnt look pro because it was shot using available light at what looked like a open roof food court in a mall. you need to get some lights, to pull the performers away from the bg. and to make us interested in them. right now its very bland. the daytime stuff in the park was ok. The stuff that did look GREATwas the shots of the guy holding the girl by the little waterfall, if you could get that feeling/lighting/composition into the rest of the video, it would be much much better. i dont mind that the video takes place in everyday places..mall, park, driveway. but i think all the performance bits should be done in a remote location, without any people walking around in the bg. its distracting, and doesnt make it look pro. anyway, hope that isnt coming off harsh. its not bad man, especialy for a first effort! keep pushing forward man!

i have a mpg of the hey lover video if you want to check it out. let me know and i can uplaod it for you.

peace!

Re: My first music video...comments please...

I think Rich pretty much said it all. The lighting especially in the night shots was a bit on the low side. Night shots can work well but you need to get in closer and find some stronger light sources. Maybe it looks O.K. on a bigger screen but on my monitor it looked too dim. I think location is everything as proved by the excellent shots by the waterfall, the colour and feel of those shots was really good. The shots by the fountain didn't work so well because of the people in the background with 'what the hell's going on?' look on their faces.

Overall I enjoyed the video and the song. Good luck to you.

Re: My first music video...comments please...

The waterfall scene was great and it does stand out so thats something to keep in mind but i guess the lighting was normal and you need more than that for a music vid. Still great effort for the first time which is more than i can say for myself as i aint dun nada yet with me camera.

PS Nice selecta of Beautiful women

Re: My first music video...comments please...

I'll keep it punchy...

1. Good on you for doing a vid, and for a first effort I think you did a great job.

2. Yes, the women are amazingly hot, particularly the lead girl. Give her my best if you would :D

3. I think the fountain in the foodcourt would work fine if we didn't see the folks in the background

4. Don't use transitions if possible. You'll notice that just about all music vids use jump cuts, and each shot is about 4 seconds or less. In a slow song like yours maybe you can stretch that limit

5. I agree, I think the compression didn't do the vid justice, it looks washed out

6. I say crank up the effects and the saturation, go for the hip hop look!

7. What are you talking about? Your website is looking frigging great!

Rock on!!

Re: My first music video...comments please...

Thanks for all the feedback. Much appreciated. I'll try to get a newly compressed version up tomorrow. On my desktop editing system and on the television screen it doesn't look nearly as dark overall as it does on my laptop.

I think everyone before me said everything. So the only thing I can say is when doing a treatment and the artist is what I would call a low budget video keep the video simple. It will give you a better video.

take a look at some of my videos that to me was low low low budget. Also the next time you do a video give a bro email if you have any question.
