My first HVX music video!

Hey guys,

This is the first music video I've done with the HVX and I have to say it was a pleasant experience. I had never touched the camera until the day before the shoot, so I'm still learning how to control the beast of a machine, but all in all I think the video turned out pretty good.

Shot over the course of two (very long) days. We used a total of 24 actors (some of which didn't make the final cut due to time restrictions in the song) and the crew consisted of myself and my brother (who is also my producer).

I'm also still learning how to export HD footage to the net and retain it's quality, so right now the link to the video is a hefty download (110mb), so proceed with caution!

Boy, at least somebody put the 60fps to some use... Well done! Very good use of different looks for performance vs. story.
 
Cool vid, nice display of the HVX's abilities..

One question: When the woman who lost her husband looked out the window for her kids, was that natural lighting coming through the window?

Glad you liked it man! Yeah, it was about to rain when we shot the backyard stuff and by the time we got to her window shot, so it was overcast but still bright. At the end when the Dad comes home, you can sorta make out some light rain that had just started.

This is the second great HVX video I've viewed today. Great display of the Camera's abilities, but more importantly, a well shot well, well directed film.
There is actually a story, and a good one, to go with the band footage. Great job.
I got goose bumps at the end.

Wow. From a dvx user... the quality of that video was amazing. How'd you get the slo mo looking so good? 60i, 1/120th> de-interlace> slow to 40%> and CC???

Thanks for the responses guys! It's weird, because I've done A LOT of research on this forum and learned everything I know about the camera from you guys. Since I was shooting directly to a portable harddrive however, it turned out that I couldn't record in 24pN mode (which is what you have to shoot in to get slow-mo automatically IN CAMERA), so again, I found this out the NIGHT BEFORE MY SHOOT. And I had planned on practically everything being in slow-motion. So after searching about a million forums I found out that there is a free plug-in at panasonic.com called the DVCPRO HD Frame Converter that allows for people shooting directly to a harddrive to shoot in 720/24p at 60 frames and then in post in converts those 60 frames into either 24 or 30, whatever you wish, and voila! Ultra-cool slow motion.

Hey Jeff, that was sweet :)

Yeah, there was a good story line too it. It actually pulled me in and made me feel for the geeky kid. I liked the lighting you had where the kid was standing in the hallway with the girls throwing paper at him.

He is a good friend of Seth Copeland, we are working together on producing some more stock footage. Seth is in several shots already. He has been working on shows all summer so we have not had much opportunity to work on stock footage.
 
Jeff,

Very nice job. Nice to see some real music. That song is catchy. I think I've listened to it about 10 times today.

Is that band from Austin? Did you shoot in Austin?
 
That was great! I really got caught up in the various vignettes with the people. Terrific job! Did you use any kind of 35mm adapter? Or, is this just straight HVX? Also, do you get the various "looks" in-camera, or did you CC/Magic Bullet ect... them?
P.S.: If they had an iTunes link, I would go buy that song right now.
