excuse the watermarks. i'm not sure i'f i'm going to persue this style, so it's a trial.

Its just very busy. I think the beauty of HDR imaging comes through subtlety. The uneven vignetting also is a bit distracting. On the other hand, the detail in the brush on the lower left side works. Works, well infact. See if you can manipulate your layers to develop a more "even" paint of HDR technique.

I personally like HDR. Some say they don't like it because it doesn't look like a real photograph. But I think it can if done mild enough to somewhat overcome too much contrast but not enough to overcome all of it. If all, or even most of it is overcome, then it takes on a somewhat surrealistic look. But to me that is just another form of art. I like it.

Larry, thinking you did a decent job on your first take .. as said though, watch for vignetting

that's great feedback, thanks!...i don't always know what to look out for/avoid...the darkened section in the center brush bothered me, and i'm still working on the business overall. i usually have a side by side with aan hdr photo i find on the internet as a reference while i learn. again, it's not a technique i'm sure i'm going to persue, but it's visually interesting, and i like the possibilities.

thanks again guys, i appreciate the feedback. nothing i can't handle, i just like honesty!

I agree that it's too busy. My attention is divided between three possible photos in my mind: the trees, the gate, and the statue. Individually, there's an opportunity for a good HDR image. Together, they're sensory overload.

What he said...the darkness in the center of the image throws me.

I've been trying to find the time to play with this too. Do you find that Photomatix is easy to play with?

yeah, very easy. though the above example was overload while i figured out what all the tools do, i've learned a lot since.

51 views. and nothing....i can take a hint. haha.

Ask and , well...

Somewhat of a layman's post but wth...

The lack of depth unsettles me. Maybe that's the effect your going for though.
It reminds me somewhat of a paper sketch although I'd might go for more of a sepia look in post.
A burnt aged paper look, but that's just a personal thought.

Still, the lack of perspective draws my attention in a negative way.
At the same time I find it interesting visually. So...

I'd experiment on the idea some more and try to improve it.
Only after you've exhausted 'all' of your ideas would I decide whether to continue on or abandon your approach.

-Cheers.

//By lack of depth, I suppose the lack of distinct shadowing or more specifically the overall lighting.
I think, as with 3D rendering, lighting and shading accentuate the sense of depth.

photomatix is awesome. i recently got into hdr for my real estate photography. it's way quicker that trying to get 3 or 4 flashes adjusted properly. some of my results haven't come out just like i'd intended, but i'm still getting the hang of it. tell me what you think: www.dustinjsims.com

but yea, that dark spot is kinda odd in the middle. you might have the smoothing turned down too much. it does weird things in contrasty areas
