my first dvx100A recording

Looks pretty bad, to be honest. It looks really jumpy at parts. Were you using a tripod or not? Without a tripod, turn OIS ON. With a tripod make sure it's OFF. I think that may be the problem here.

Also, the angle was extremely boring. You need to have more depth to the shot. Next time try to shoot the action diagonally, and maybe from a lower angle. Maybe try some close ups as well. The constant medium shot makes it very bland.

You'll definitely need some practice. But what better camera to learn with, than a DVX100a? :D

Good luck!

thanks for being honest diego1235467. i was very nervous that night which made it hard for me to really concentrate on what i was doing. when i went back and looked at the footage i was a bit dissapointed. you are right i need a lot more practice in a lot of areas. oh i did use a tripod. its not the best tripod but i thought it would be ok for the job. i`ve got a lot to learn. do you know of any literature that can teach me about adding depth to my shots as well as other things?

i dont have the time now...to really get into a good review and whatnot but if u wanna know about ur dvx get Barry Green's DVX BOOK. Its on Amazon and sold on this site. For ways to add depth and variety to your shots study still photpgraphy :) Also there's some nice tutorials on youtube on photography. But here's something to start you out ..watch all parts. then watch it again :)

you get the hang of it with time and practise. Also try not to zoom. looks unprofessional. Well i mean u have to zoom to change shot size but...in the edit...cut it out.

^ There you go.

The DVX Book is pretty much a must buy. I still don't have it, and it's starting to bother me.
To add more depth and make your shots more interesting, watch some of your favorite movies! Study what the camera does, whether it's handheld or tripod, where people are standing, etc. Movies and still photography are your best friends here.

Check out Steven Bogda on Vimeo. He a great DP and member on the forum. Here's his DVX album:

You have some interesting subjects here. With only one camera one option would be to shoot some different angles and closeups of the band during a rehearsal to later intercut with your performance edit.
