Just finished putting together my first DVX project. guess it might be hard to tell it's DVX100a footage after all the effects. It's a 30sec short made for a fundraiser put on by an LA based non-profit group. Invited artists had to use their logo air freshener and incorporate, in some way, the theme "idol". There are no credits in the piece per the rules but they are as follows
direction, editing and effects: michael velasquez (me)
cinematography: zeke pinheiro
camera: michael velasquez, zeke pinheiro
music: david tichy
starring: lila doVan

it's called "ronin".

that slicing in half looked like some sort of smudge effect. mind sharing how you did it?

Re: My First DVX100a Project

thanks for the positive words. the whole thing was done in AE. the cartoonish effect is the threshold filter (sometimes used in combo with levels). the slicing in half is a mesh warp.

Very cool, reminded me of a MTV commercial for some reason... How long did it take you to edit it?

Re: My First DVX100a Project

i think i remember which MTV commercial you're talking about. i was going for an a-ha take on me/sin city comic sort of thing. editing took less than a day because we shot pretty closely to my storyboards. it was all the compositing that took up time. some of my green screen shots weren't lit well enough and i had to do some frame by frame tweeking. in total we spent about 4 days on this project.
