My first attempt at photography(don't look!)

Hey all, I'm justing posting up some of my recent pics.
These were all taken with a Digital Rebel XT, or the 350D as some of you may know it.
I decided, literally two days ago, that it was a disgrace to call myself a filmmaker without being able to take some photographs too. I also was factoring in the fact that there's a local visual arts contest that I would love to make some cash off of, but that was just practical backing to my artistic need.

Someone in my family happened to own this, so I decided that I could try what I wanted with it. It took me about a full day of cruising the internet to know what button did what, but then I spent the remainder of that day and half the next take these photo's. They were took over the weekend, and I haven't touched the camera since.

These photo's are untouched, and were all shot as JPEG's, because I don't really understand RAW yet.

I really want to hear you guy's criticque of them.

P.S. I really don't know what I'm doing as far as the forum goes, so I hope you guys can see the pics. If not, I'll try again. I also am posting these in the Rebel XT user's thread.

Problem fixed. Here's the Pics!

Here's my favorite. I'm pretty proud of this one.

Here's a couple of Macro's I did on some flowers around and outside the house. I got lucky, and it rained, so they turned out pretty good, IMHO.

Cool photos.

Most of the flower ones are prety basic .. but that's because it's really hard to shoot a great photo of a flower .. by themselves they allready normally look good, so it takes a lot of extra work to take a good photo of them.

I love the composition of the 3rd photo of the boy. The cropping works, and his stare is sharp and dead on.

What's that in the 2nd to last one? Looks like breadsticks?

Ya, they're crispy garlic breadsticks. We happened to have a party the night before, and they were out. While cleaning up, someone just shoved them by the window, and the light on them was absolutely beautiful. I tried to do it justice, but I'm not sure how well I pulled of what it was.

Thank you. That boy should just be a natural model. That was with natural light, and he just came over and sat down. He bored a hole in the camera with his eye's, and just sat there waiting for me to take a picture. All the pictures of him were just him running around the room and posing for a few seconds, before moving on. I basically only got one shot at any given angle/position, before he decided on something else, lol.

I like the photo of the woman with head turned. I'll suggest a little bounce board or soft lighting to the camera-side of her face just to add alittle more light and warmth.

Ya, I would have loved to have had more light in there, because I had my ISO way up, and you can really tell. There was very little light, and I just barely managed to grab that pic. I used natural light to light all of these, since I was just getting started with the camera and just wanted to grab shots of what I could. But in a situation where I had control over the light, that would be exactly what I would do.
