My First AF101 Project

Hi guys,

My names David & I run my own small (just me) production company in Nottingham UK called Ripe Films (www.ripe-films.co.uk) and until two months ago was filming on the Sony V1E. I decided to avoid the DSLR craze in hope for something better. The AF101 seemed to tick most of the boxes, so I stumped up the cash and gave it a shot. I decided to buy the Lumix 14-140mm and the Lumix 20mm and have also invested in the voigtlander 25mm (a friend is bringing it back from Australia! - £200 saving). I've been generally happy with these lenses, but being a novice I wont really know for some years.

I've now completed my first corporate/documentary video on the 101 and I'm generally really pleased with the results. It's been a steep learning curve, and I've made a number of mistakes in this first project, but the camera has delivered some excellent results. I feel I made the right choice buying this camera. Being very interested in documentary filming I was worried the 101 would let me down, but I feel it's just a matter of adjusting my style/approach to filming that's necessary.

If your interested you can view my video bellow:

Thanks.

Hi David,

It looks great! I'm actually pre-producing two documentaries myself and I plan to buy the Af-101 to shoot them.

One question about the sound. Which mics/recorders did you use? It sounds great. Good job!

Hi Fernando,

Thanks!

I used a wired Sony ECM-77B lapel mic. I was a little disappointed with some of the sound. It's the trade off between working entirely alone and not really wanting to see the mic in shot.

Good luck with your documentaries!

Hi David, nice little film, also good to see another AF101 owner from Nottingham making documentaries - if you ever need a 2nd camera man or someone to do sound (I have some decent audio stuff) then let me know

Great job David. Some of those images looked amazing. I did notice in a few shots that they seemed to be too much yellow, was that just because you didn't have time to WB or was it just a very yellow environment?

I'm about to get my Af100, I'm based in Warwick. So if you ever need a helping hand I'd love to help out.

Peter
