My first 3D design

John, you mentioned in your original post about some training DVD's, what are they and where did you get them?

Also, are those exhaust pipes running down both lower sides?

Tks Taylor; just checked out Zbrush and a month ago I would not have knwn what they were doing but the entire QT mvoie made sense suddenly ! I'll look more into it !

Damn, I havnt done any real 3D stuff in a while. You are making me miss it. Thats a great start John. 3D is a great hobby but takes up sooo much time. I actually started practicing again after seeing some motion graphics work. It gave me some new inspiration to keep the 3D in me alive.

Some old pics but they are not finished.

D'oh! I feel stupid for not having said anything about the original post in this thread.

Nice work, John! You are an artist and it shows in most everything you do.

Thanks, that subway was for an animation called "Michelange-YO" .
There is another 2 levels to that model, the token boths and the street. I was going to have a hoodie run through there and sneak into the tunnel fading into the darkness. as everything turns black you hear the clinking of a hammer and chisel on stone and we start to see a light that gets brighter and brighter. We then see the hoodie chipping away at something which is revealed to a big stone graffiti piece with a ghetto version of the statue of "David" next to it. Its still a nice thought i think. My M&M's vs SKITTLES took precedence over that though that I never finished. I couldnt find renders of that stuff though. I cant rememeber the pass to the FTP i used to have.

Tks Issac!

Surf ? You are allowed to. Check your settings in user profile

I am not allowed to because, the company where I do the 3D does not allow it...

John, I'm totally digging it! I now have to kick my tutorials into high gear just to keep up!

Good work.

Here a still from a project I did last year for Discovery Channel.
Done in Maya 5.

Man, that looks great. Maya all the way! I have a couple of buddies that swear by Alias Wavefront's software. Got me interested too. I'm now a big fan of nurbs and patch modeling. My buddy has lightwave I played around with it, I don't like it as much as I like Maya. I think it's the interface that turns me off. Can you link a clip of the discovery channel ad?

Here's a list of my favorite tools:

DVX 100A or B
Fuji DV tapes
Apple G5 or Powerbook
Maya 6.0
Shake
After Effects
Final Cut Pro
Protools
Photoshop
& Divx (you gotta love it)

I'll be posting some of my work soon for feedback.

Dan

Yea, the craziest thing is Autodesk has aquired Alias now !!! :)

Anyway Max v Maya debates will never be the same.

You're too kind

I just own my own business; that's the real secret.

KAI

That was great ! What is that ?

Kai, your work never ceases to blow my mind, and want to stop attempting graphic design.
