My Final Cut Broke...

... and I could use some help with how to fix it if it's possible!!

I'm running Final Cut Studio, with Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 I believe. I'm using an Imac i5 2.66ghz system.

I had been working on my web series, which I have already amassed several thousand clips. I was re-naming clips in Final Cut then right clicking and having it so the file would match the clip name. I was also doing some log and transfer of AVCHD footage from SD cards, and at one point FCP froze and I had to force quit.

After re-opening, log and transferring more footage, changing a whole bunch of clip names and asking the file name to match, I eventually finished and closed FCP.

Upon trying to re-open it, it just won't do anything. All my other programs work, only FCP does not. Restarted, turned off and on, but it remains the same, clicking the icon does nothing. Clicking the icon in apps does nothing, clicking project file does nothing.

I opened a new user account and logged out of normal account wondering if it might help... Under the new account, FCP has a circled cross through it, and says it is broken or something along those lines.

Anyone know what I need to do to fix it? Thanks. (I own FCP Studio, so I have the original discs)

Hi David. No I have not - nor am I savvy enough to know how to do that (or where to find them to trash I should say) despite using FCP for years.

How do I go about doing that - and can doing that impact my project I am currently in the middle of in any way?

*** I've had to head out to shoot some scenes for my series. If David or anyone else replies with suggestions or answers I'll get them when I get home late tonight and reply when applicable. Thanks ***

Make sure FCP isn't running. Then, go to Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Final Cut Pro 7 Prefs. Trash that file (FCP Prefs) and reboot computer. When you relaunch FCP a new Prefs file will be created.

Thanks for the where to for trashing... unfortunately it didn't effect it in anyway. I read up a bit and people suggested trashing more than just the one pref, I think 4 in total... still no change.

I tried to open again as another user and it suggested that FCP was either damaged or incomplete.

Any other ideas...? (I really need my editing system to work as I have more footage to transfer!!!)

Called Apple Support... they merely said trash the application and reinstall.

I did and it's working right now again. (I did trash my preferences, maybe it helped too). Thanks for input on how to fix.
