My Film

Re: My Film

Wow! thats real impressive for a months experience. You got me hooked and now I wana see the rest. I thought the audio was real top quality and the titles were real nice too. Also, you had some real smooth shots, did u use a dolly? anyways, good job, keep 'em coming

Re: My Film

looks great so far. can't really say more cause it's just like a teaser. but it sure looks good

Re: My Film

Can't wait to see what else you come up with in the future, because that looked great. Nice sense of composition, camera movement, dramatic lighting, combination of wide and tight shots. Just great.

Re: My Film

Wow, thanks everyone. I really appreciate the encouragement.

I find that the DVX just produces such nice looking stuff that the look itself inspires the creative process, creative framing, creative lighting, etc.

Yes, I used a homemade dolly for the smooth shots. It's essentially a furniture dolly I bought for $40, laid on its back (it has another set of wheels near the top), and then pushed or pulled. I'm not using a track, but I might eventually; it works well because it was on carpet.

As for the story; she's got a dark secret. I'll post it when its finished.

The music is homemade and the voice over is recorded at home too. My background is audio production.

Thanks again everyone!
Glen

Re: My Film

Ohh, and the titling was done in premiere pro. It's just a normal title, but I applied a gaussian blur along one axis to make it "blur in" and "blur out".

Re: My Film

What, did you use something like GPO for your soundtrack?
It sounds awesome, I been wanting to start making my own scores, I just bought a pretty cool Midi keyboard, but haven't gotten around to buying the software. What do you recomend (As far as a Orchestra program, and the Orchestras host program?)

Re: My Film

That's really nice, Glen. Great job! Like others, I would like to know more how you did the nice sound track.

Re: My Film

GREAT work on the lighting, mood and camera work!

If I had to get anal retentive, my only comment would be that your actress looks down at her mark when she steps into focus in the blurry lobby shot. It was a bit distracting because everything seems so intentional up to that point that it will probably make your audience wonder what she is looking at - kind of expecting a payoff for that look. But that's just me being anal...

Re: My Film

For the sound track I used Acid 4.0 (From Sony, formerly from Sonic Foundry) with the cinematic orchestral library. It's a mix of small pieces of orchestral "riffs". Put together properly, the effect can be fantastic.

And yes you're right, now that I look at it, I can see that she glances down at her mark on the floor!! It's so easy to miss that kind of thing in your own production.. this forum is great because of the fresh eyes.

I'm gonna see if I have another take without the glance down.

Re: My Film

Really nice Glen. It has a great look. And thanks for explaining how you did some of the shots.

Just two things: 1) the dissolve from the first to second shot. It didn't match well. Maybe because the point of attention changes from shot to shot (slightly). Maybe if you shifted (horizontally) the shot of her sitting or the shot of her walking, then the dissolve would be smoother and match better. Or maybe a completely try a different transition. Like a flash of white. Just a thought. And 2) When she's walking down the hall she seems to be walking casually. Then you cut to her POV and she's cruising! Vvvvrooooom... Maybe slow it down in Premiere Pro by 10-15%.

I feel odd making suggestions because it really looks great. Can't wait to see the whole piece. Good luck!

Re: My Film

The funny thing about the dissolve is that I threw it in at the very end. It was originally a straight cut, which worked really well, but I went against my instincts and did the transition.. I guess it shows to always trust your instincts.

With the vrooooming shot, I was pushing that on the dolly and I was going really fast. I'll play with the slowdown, or I might also have some slower footage...

Re: My Film

the color, composition, the look of this shows attention to detail. very filmic. I really love (maybe obsessed) the way dvx can look like film.
