First off, I am a complete amateur with digital video. I have been working with AUDIO in the digital domain for at least 10 years now but I am still fairly new to "pro" level video. Without going on an rambling about features I don't even understand yet just let me say...
I LOVE this damned camera! I got one used a couple months back and, with the exception for shooting too bright on my first couple trials, everything I have shot looks GREAT! I have kept the basic settings as they were when I received the DVX and made a couple changes suggested by other members of this forum. I know for a fact my footage will get much, much, much better (because I have seen the results many of you here have gotten) but so far all I have ad to do for most shots is white balance, select scene and set my shutter. Yeah, yeah. VERY minor steps to take but so far it has worked for me. I'm investing in lenses, a dolly, a better tripod and maybe some filters soon.
Basically, I'm just REALLY happy with my purchase and I don't get that "the kind of camera I need next" feeling. Right now (or for some time to come for MY needs, at least), I can't see wanting/needing another model to complete every shoot we have slated.
If the DVX100B is the only camera you afford on the list of cameras you're considering right now and you don't REALLY, REALLY, REALLY need HD or other features this cam lacks then take the plunge. You'll be happy.
*To be complete in my INCOMPLETE review, let me say that I shot a fireworks display last night and it came out slightly grainy BUT I was able to clean it up in edit. I'm sure as I learn more about the DVX I'll get better dark shots though.
Anyway, (again) I LOVE this camera! (Can you tell?)
