My EX1 Circular Polarizer Dillema

I picked up a B+W polarizer filter today. It seems like a nice piece of kit. The only problem is the EX1's lens hood won't fit over it...bummer.

It looks like the B+W Slim-Line will though. The problem is I'm reading mixed reviews on its effectiveness to get them murky skies blue. If anyone has any experience with the Slim-Line C-P filters I'd very much appreciate your feedback.

Also, I'm not liking the black text on navy blue/gray background for DVXUser. It's REALLY hard to see what I'm typing! Is there any way to change this? It's a white background when editing and white before I click it off the main window.

A CP won't turn murky skies blue, it'll turn light blue skies to a deeper dark blue.

But once you set it up to your satisfaction soon as you pan the camera you lose the CP effect. So imo a CP filter is a still camera tool.

A graduated gray ND is a more useful, it'll drop the sky 2 stops, bringing out more detail on the ground. HTH

Cheers.

LOL, yes I'm aware CPs won't turn overcast days into sunny ones. I should have said my murky blue vs. deep blue skies but murky may have been the wrong word to use. Ugly...murky. That's what I meant to say. ---->

Agreed that it's just a tool. I bought it for pretty b-roll shots...I've had one for my still camera for the longest time but never had one for the EX1. I'll definitely look into a graduated filter but money is tight what with a NYC trip/shoot and Christmas coming up.

Nah, those shots are from the Amazon product page for the filter. Thanks for the well wishes, you too have a Merry one if you celebrate Christmas!

My slim CP works fine with the hood. I think the difference in the look may well depend on the brand and how well the filter is made. Perhaps a mattebox with filter slots may be more to your liking...although bulkier.

I have the B&W Kaismann slim circular version, it fits under the hood fine and will darken blue skies as much as you want(too much some times). Im sure you know this but the filter is most effective when used at a right angle to the sun.
