My DVX is making an odd noise...

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed here before as I am new and I was not able to find an answer yet.

Anyway, I pulled out one of my DVX-100As last night and turned it on. I instantly heard a weird crackling that sounded like it was coming from inside the barrel. I've never heard it before and it wasn't affecting the picture. I recorded a little bit of tape and you could audibly hear the noise in the recording. When I switched the camera to PLAYBACK mode, the noise stopped. So it has to be something with the imaging.

I recorded a little bit of the noise an uploaded it so that you guys can hear it. Any help or ideas is appreciated. I'm thinking it's going to have to be serviced.

Here's a link to the noise...

Thanx in advance!

Me too

My DVX also has been making this noise. I thought it was the cold weather, but I've had it inside for days and nothing seems to fix it. Mine does slightly ffect the video quality it looks a little "wobbly" I would appreciate any help. I have had the same problem and it's annoying! Thanks!

Not sure... but I would NOT turn the camera on until someone else chime's in with more info. It doesn't sound good, and I can only imagine that it'll do more damage by turning it on.

I think it could be the OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer), because it's coming from around the barrel area right? It normally clunks around when the cameras off, and you move the camera around.... but that would be the first I've heard of it making noise while on.... maybe it's grinding against something?..... Somebody more qualified should chime in soon but..... that's my thought.

Of course

Of course

Most assuredly...I am buying a new DVX because I wanted a second anyways...and I will see how much the repairs will be. I am convinced it is the OIS. But knock on wood it's something more basic. :kali: <Stabilizer>

I tried turning the OIS off, but that didn't do anything. Yeah, please keep us posted Buqui...I'm gonna have to find a service center.

Turning off the OIS won't do anything because it's a physical object inside the camera.... so if anything turning off OIS while make it make a noise while the cameras on and off.

Repair

Repair

I am paying $450 for the repair. I used a Camera and T.V. repair hop who sends it in to a camcorder repair man, so I was contacted by the storefront, so I all I got was the cost of the repair...not what was wrong, but, as soon as I know, I will give you the diagnosis.

I had my DVX100A repaired twice for this - it is a ribbon cable that gets corroated and works (or doesn't) with the OIS and the lens assembly. There's a "Warning PSD" that comes with this problem - that's why the picture gets shakey. I just got mine back last week and it cost me 480.00. Basically they clean the corroated ribbon cable so the connection is good. If the lens assembly isn't damaged and doesn't have to be replaced, then firming up the cable contacts is all that needs to be done. This seems to be only with the A's because the B's have a sturdier gold connection ribbon cable and they got rid of this cable all together in the HVX200's.

Anyway this is what I was told by the tech. Panasonic put out a service bulletin where this repair is done by introducing a piece of foam to help secure the cable, but I don't think mine was repaired this way.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again.

Thanx for the response...gonna have to work some OT to get this repaired.

Funny, I just turned the camera on a couple minutes ago and it was fine for maybe 5 minutes...then it started making the noise and shaking again. Ugh...

here's the scoop

here's the scoop

don't know if anyone's still interested but...

had the same problem 2 years ago, sent it in for repairs to a shop in the seattle area, cost about $250.00 for the next 2 years i didn't have any problems... until last weekend when it started acting up again. this problem is extremely intermitent, it sometimes goes away for 2 or 3 weeks only to rear it's head again unexpectedly. anyways, i'm not looking forward to sending it back, but in researching it i did find this interesting thread:

hope that helps
