my Demo reel opinions?

kinda long for a demo reel, didn't really start until 20 seconds in, and i didn't really get into it until it was almost half over, but i did like some of the stuff in there. also, it was posted on youtube, if you really want to impress people you should make it a higher quality (bigger file) and let people download instead of stream. not bad though, keep it up

What is this a demo reel for? DP?

I would cut out the slow-build up and get right to the footage, and cut out the last half after the faster part of the music. If that means finding a different song to cut to, do it, because I think the music is what is holding you back. Depending on your audience, they might throw your tape out the window with the 20 second intro alone with no footage, and overall will see that the 2 minutes of footage you did provided were wasted with at least 30 seconds on titles and footage fading in/out from black. You have 2 minutes of screen time. SHOW your work, that's what a reel is for; don't waste your chance at impressing somebody with syncing to music or little transitions or visual effects.

I don't like the fast cuts in the middle synced with the music. It was too fast for me to get a feel for the shot you were trying to show, to examine the lighting and framing--I was only able to use my gut reaction.

Some of your footage looks good, but I think you should watch some other peoples' reels and get some ideas on how better to present your footage in the time you have to maximize the amount of quality footage.

The "fade to blacks" are a killer. I found myself trying to fast forward thru them to get to the next series of shots. Also, too much lag time in the beginning. Get right to the footage.

use different music
make intro slate 2 seconds long
start with old lady painting
then motocross
then crazy motorcycle people
then the stuff you have in the beginning now.

it's all about sequence.
you want to start with the most effective imagery.
