My daughter got jacked at the ATM today

I think I walked up right before something very bad was going to happen. We were at a chinese restaurant and found out they only took cash. My daughter walked next door to the credit union. I watched her walk over to the ATM and JUST did lose sight of her at the actual machine. But I kept watching, and watching, and she never popped back out there. I got a very sick feeling in my stomach and ran out of the place with the order still on the counter. There were two people at the ATM punching numbers and my daughter was just shaking. She looked at me and just said "help". It appeared to be two women but when I got right up on them, it was one woman and a dude in drag. Apparently as soon as my daughter had slipped in the ATM and hit the pin, the guy walks up and reached in front of my daughter, punched deposit and said he needed her help. He wanted to deposit a check to my account and transfer the money. He pops an envelope in the machine saying it had $500 in it. My daughter had her wits about her long enough the hit the cancel button and snag the card and receipt that popped out, but it wasnt going well. That's when I walked up on them and saw my daughter's face. I told them they needed to back off, I didnt care what they thought they were trying to do, I didnt know them. I thought my daughter was going to pass out. I took my pen off my shirt front and started writing down the description of their car and them. The one woman had already gotten back in the car as soon as I walked up. The man was still trying to talk to me, but left when I started writing stuff down. He jumped in the car and flew all the way out of the parking lot in reverse so I never got a tag number. Damn it!

We're lucky we werent shot or stabbed, and that they decided to run. I had NOTHING on me to use as a weapon if I needed to. My pen, I guess. When I walked up, I didnt know then exactly what was going on, but I could tell from my daughter's face things werent right, and I stepped directly between her and them, already knowing whatever was going down, they were going to have to go thru every bit of my flesh and bone to get to her.

My finances are on lockdown. I called the 800 number on the back of my card before I even left the ATM. I have to change everything, notify all the companies who auto draft from my account (Netflix, my webhosting svc, etc), go to the bank on Monday, etc.... I have no checks left (or cant find them since I moved, heh) So at the moment, I am a penniless DVXer.... My daughter is shellshocked and wont let me out of her sight. yeah, she's 17, almost 18, but already lost her dad to gunshot....so this was a bit much for her today.

mean people suck. :furious3:

That's all you need with everything else going on in your life. Well done you (and your daughter) for standing up to them though :)

Oh my goodness... I am happy everything ended without more of an incident... Good job on keeping your wits, and also your daughter keeping her wits. People are dumb!

You did a great job.

There is nothing quite as scary and vicious as a mother defending her child.

Take a deep breath and consider yourself lucky.

Damn Terri, that hits close to home. Where did this happen? I don't know why people in this city go to do stupid sh*t like that!

Thank god you're allright! It sounds like you handled the situation, and grabbed the bull by the horns, so to speak!

Wow, it's a good thing you trusted your instincts. I'm glad no one was hurt. It never ceases to amaze me how many scumbags there are out there.

I couldn't help but think of Joe Pesci in "Casino." That pen could've been deadly if it had to be.

We were, as luck would have it, on Atlantic Blvd. near Regency, where 57th Heaven is (was?) We were at the Golden Eggroll, and she walked next door to the Credit Union. I had her in my sight the whole way over there, could see clearly from the lobby of the chinese place. I just couldnt see the front of the bldg where the ATM machine was.

They dont call it Sin City for nuthin'.... :furious3:

I'm always heartened when I hear of people who say "screw that!" to the pinheaded advice that you should just give them what they want. You go!

Well done, thartley.

She's lucky to have a mama bear like you...

That'll teach those pieces of sh1te to poo poo with the two of you.

Cheers to you, your quick wits and your finely-tuned motherly instincts.

Very true! My mom worked at Wachovia for a long time and her branch got held up with two guys in drag. Sorry to hear about it, hopefully they get busted soon!

You're my super hero. But OMG you are star crossed.

No, I like to think that my life is refusing to let me sit and wonder what it must be like if (fill in the blank) were to happen. Or, what would I do in *this* situation. I've had as many good tasty things in my life as unsavory, and its left my soul pregnant with stories of it all.

Would anyone like to pen my memoirs? :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Bravo ! and well done standing up to the goons. I have had a few encounters in my life and its always very unsettling.

Please take some time off and may be get away from that place for a few days would make your daughter feel better.

GoodLuck and Cheers

Terri - You're one amazing woman (and Mom). Life keeps hitting you with everything she's got! But you don't back down. You two need to seriously think about taking a loooooooong break (after your daughter graduates) and come visit the friendliest place on Earth (no, NOT Disneyland!). I'll send you a PM.

Not sure why you need to contact all your banks and businesses. Did the idiots steal your checkbook or atm card? If they don't have your account number then there's not much they can do to screw up your finances.

I'm extremely happy you're both ok. "I pity the fool who messes with Terri and her daughter!!!" :costumed-smiley-047
