My daughter got jacked at the ATM today

thartley,

I'm glad you and your daughter are okay... sounds like a pretty nerve-wracking experience!

BTW, keys make great weapons (when stuck in eyes) and a pen could have worked just as well... I'm glad you didn't need to use them though!

It's sad that the world can be like this... but glad when it all turns out okay. Better to have the hassle of having to cancel cards and bank accounts rather than someone hurt.

Terri, I have dealt with lots of people who have been through some pretty horrific experiences. (paramedic 15 years)
Tell your daughter the nightmares will end, time will take away the fear and talking about it helps. Don't let this make either of you feel like victims. You may have been for a moment, but you don't have to be for the rest of your lives. Don't let the criminal element take away from you the ability to go out, shop, go to an ATM. Just stay aware.
You should probably think about talking with the Victims Services person in your area. The police can put you in touch with them. They can help with the feelings and emotions and such.
Too often stories like yours turn out so much differently, I'm glad yours has a happy ending. People talk about mace and guns and martial arts, like I said earlier, awareness of your surroundings is the best defense.
Glad you and your daughter are unhurt.

Thanks Will... yeah, the day after this happened, she had a panic-like attack at the grocery store because of all the people around, but yesterday I sent her out for sandwiches for dinner and she was fine. :) No nightmares lastnight. She's already getting back to her brooding angst-ridden teenage self! :)

Some of these people are unbelievable! It's a travesty that people result to jackin others for cash versus working for themselves. People are in need of anger management and should contact ***Blah blah blah***

WOW.
That's crass, huh?

If anyone feels like taking a minute - I think it would be nice for ol' "Gregory D. Anderson Jr." to hear just how crass his spamming is.

Feel free to drop him a line, and let him know.
Hell, while your at it, drop him 3 or 4.

It's stories like that that make the "right to carry" laws seem pretty worthwhile.

Have your daughter try martial arts classes. This is not to suggest that if and when something like this should ever happen again that she would "jackie Chan" their behinds. I suggest it because maybe it would be a proactive thing she could do to make her feel like she's more in control and taking positive steps at regaining self confidence. It doesn't work for everyone, but it may for her.:nads:
