My cool new HVX200 gig!

Greetings, all:

I have a somewhat unique gig using a brand new HVX200 with 2x4 Gb P2 cards: I need to get footage from a 6-day, 400-mile bicycle ride where I am a participant.

The HVX200 is mounted on my titanium bike frame using a Superclamp, with the camera cradled on a quick-release plate sitting on 4 vibration isolator spring assemblies mounted at 45-degrees. This, with the HVX's built-in OIS provides tolerable stabilization - and camera protection - from road vibration and bumps.

For obvious reasons, I have to go as light as possible but still get good HD. I'm carrying a 60 Gb iPod as a "powered HD" and using HVX200 1394 Host Mode to offload the P2 cards every 20 minutes of footage. At the end of the day, I am reunited with my laptop and I transfer the entire day's footage to a big hard drive.

My question: I want to use 720/24pn for space purposes (and to get that elusive "film look") but I've heard mixed reviews of 24pn, i.e. it won't work with Final Cut, it's jerky, etc. My background is more still photography than cinema, so I wonder if I could get any and all comments from my more experienced brethren.

What I carry on my bicycle:

-HVX200 mounted on bike frame via vibration isolator rig
-Three 5600 mah batteries
-60 Gb iPod Photo (Firewire version)
-Portabrace HVX rain cover
-Cables to offload P2 cards to iPod

All the best,

JJ

Can do, but the whole setup is in the machine shop right now so it'll probably not be for a week or so. In the meantime, at least, here is a sketch of the rough setup. The camera is worth 3x the bike - so I'm more disinclined than ever to take a biter onto the road :-O

(Gyro is optional and I've just about decided it's not necessary for the added weight and complexity).
