My Contest Entry for May

Re: My Contest Entry for May

So.......did you watch it........do you think anything..........good/bad........i need some feedback.........

Re: My Contest Entry for May

Well, i will tell you that PC's always have that little "gamma" issue. It is because the compression darkens the image, so what you can do to fix this problem is: when you export your video go to the filters tab right under the settings tab int he export window and go to HSL BALANCE. Then adjust "lightness" to 108. This will fix your problem for the PCs, while not really affecting the look on the mac.

Tell me if this helps you out. I noticed the same problem and got this little tip from http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/qt_movies_from_fcp.html. Ken Stone has the best information for us mac users!

Re: My Contest Entry for May

Thanks for the link on the gamma issues....I have read that article many times.

What do you guys think of the film though...I can always fix the gamma issue if anybody is having a problem....I was just trying to make people aware that the color could be a problem...

So, with that said, how did you enjoy Tin.?

Re: My Contest Entry for May

Great job Kyle! The short kept me interested and didnt go too long or too short; it was just right. I was anxiously waiting to see what was inside that box. I also feel the music sets a good atmosphere. I see we have some talent among us! Keep up the good work and good luck winning that contest.

;D

Re: My Contest Entry for May

It was about nothing...absolutely nothing....It is about what the May Film Fest's topic is about..."Lose something old, find something new" Or something like that...He lost his old ways and ran off with something new...its just that great!

Re: My Contest Entry for May

i liked it kyle, the music was great for it. the costume was great too. the coloring fit what looked like the time period as well. it was entertaining. my only suggestions would be to tighten some of the edits towards the end, could be a bit snappier maybe. goodstuff though!

Re: My Contest Entry for May

Thanks Rich for the review and the editing tips...This is why I love this website! People can honestly critique your work!

Re: My Contest Entry for May

I liked it. It's simple, clever, funny, short and it kept my interest. I loved the "kick" in the end. Nice color... did you do that in post? Camera settings? Good work.

Re: My Contest Entry for May

I liked everything about it except I didn't "get it." But you've explained above, now i'm happy.

What did you use for the hair and scratches and the jitter on the titles. You had JUST enough. It was subtle, but noticeable. When this is overdone, it looks tacky. Did you try to use the same film artifacts on the actual footage? That might have been interesting.

Re: My Contest Entry for May

I used one of my many artbeats stock footage CDs...I used Film Artifacts and kept it on the minimum because like you said...i think film dust is tacky...but it adds a cool feel to the film....I did test having the dust throughout the whole film but the tackiness escalated big time so I dropped that idea...I did no color correction in post although I did pull down the saturation a little bit...I filmed in 24pa with the WB on the Preset...:)

Good judgment - it looks great.

Re: My Contest Entry for May

That was some eye and ear candy. I liked the sepia tone and the lead's costume. It was non sequiter in that the kid just found this treasure chest with, tennis balls? And that they were ground score enough to cause him to click his heels together at exit.

I thought I saw a camera guy shadow on the 'tin' during a closeup. otherwise, all was good. I'm a sucker for any kind of period piece.

Re: My Contest Entry for May

Really a shadow..LOL...never noticed one...I am going to go watch it for the 100th time and see if i can see it...Thanks for letting me know

:)

Re: My Contest Entry for May

Hey, really nice colors there Kyle. Looks great, and those film effects adds to it as well!

When the boy stumbles on the box you jump over the line (boy falls from the left to the right in the first angle and then from the right to the left in the next), was this intentional? It was something that cought my attention and I'm not sure you meant for that.

Re: My Contest Entry for May

Great Job Kyle,
It was short, simple and funny.
Looking forward to seeing more of your films.
Keep up the great work.

Re: My Contest Entry for May

I'll admit, it could have been tightened up a bit at the end, it started to kind of be like "ok, we see he has some tennis balls, now what" :P.

But I must say, when the opening shot cut in, I was a little taken aback...looked REALLY nice! I couldn't help thinking how much it looked like a "movie", and so that's definitely a good thing. The film's strengths are definitely it's cinematography, good job!
