My CBC radio Interview(s). Disaster avoided! Mp3's included.

I did a CBC radio interview yesterday that went really well. Actually, I did two. :)
They put me in the middle of another interview by mistake. One "Mike" didn't show up and I was early for mine so they assumed I was him.

Luckily I knew what they were talking about and was able to contribute. :)

Here are the interviews. Listen to The Room interview first and you'll see what I mean.
This is how it happened... I showed up to CBC radio about 10 minutes early.
As I approached the front entrance a woman is leaning out the door, she looks at me and says, 'Are you Mike?'
I reply of course... 'Yup'. She looks at me like she's a tad annoyed and says... 'Hurry!'

We bypass security using her card. Run through cubicles and take some sort of short cut through the building. I'm thinking... what the hell!?
I must be late? I thought for sure they had said eight o'clock. She opens the booth where the interview is already going on.
Sits me next to the other guy who I assume is supposed to be the other filmmaker since I knew they were going to interview two of us for the festival.

My butt barely hits the seat when I'm asked the first question. I had missed the entire introduction so I had no idea.
You'll notice a slight hesitancy from me and then I roll with it.

When the radio host plays the first audio clip from The Room I cover the mic and tell him that they have the wrong Mike.
He waves my off like I'm crazy and we continue on. Later I found out he thought I was just nervous.
At some point during the interview I believe they tell him via his headset that he's interviewing the wrong guy.

I'll let the audio clips fill you in on the rest. :)

VERY nice save. I definitely sensed the "WTF?" hesitation in your first answer. That's when I would've spilled the beans (as I've not seen the movie)...well done

Thanks, guys.

I saved the "WTF!?" moment for when he played the first ROOM audio clip in my presence.
I wasn't there for the opening so I had no idea what the segment was about.

This was a live interview so during the room audio clip was my first chance 'off air' to let him know what was going on.
He still didn't quite understand what was wrong at that point and went on with the interview.

Let's just say that when it was all over everyone apologized profusely for putting me in that kind of situation.

I just thought it was funny. :)

The woman who met me outside and rushed me in said that in her 21 years working there that had never happened before.

Haha, that's great, I could NEVER do that. I've done an interview for EP daily on G4tech TV, and that was taped, and even then I messed up two or three times. Not to mention it's about something I've made and know about.

Did you actually watch the room or was it just pulled out of your ass? ;)

I've had the misfortune of seeing The Room.
It's actually quite amusing in a twisted kind of way. :)

Can you just imagine if the other 'Mike' was listening to the interview as he was running to the station?

"That's not me!! That's not me!!"

Twilight zone ! he must have freaked .

I liked how you used one of the host same sentences to save the show...." kind of like the rocky horror picture show."
They should have known you were an " imposter" when you said "Daniel" and not" Lisa".

Funny .

The thing is... I never heard the intro when he made the comparison to the RHPS. Quite the coincidence really.

At least I was honest and said I couldn't remember her name. :)
He offered up "Daniel' and I said... "Something like that."

I'm sure the other Mike knew full well what her name was. Apparently he's seen it 3 times!

I'm glad he didn't say something like... "What was it like the third time you saw it?"
I've only seen it once, quite some time ago.

That's great.

What I love is how we've seen what happened to you (man gets mistaken for someone else, man temporarily assumes identity to save face, madcap comedy ensues) but to hear it played out in a situation where you really did have no choice but to go with it (unlike in the movies where its like, "just tell them you aren't the other guy!!! d'uh!") is priceless!

That's funny. I actually thought to myself later that day... I should make a short film out of this.
Although it seemed more like a bad dream when it happened.

Well, my short film 'RONALD' took home first place so I'm thrilled.
Guess it was all worth it.
