My Canon 5D Mark II came today, woo hoo!

I partially charged the battery and shot about 20 minutes of stuff around the house and THIS THING ROCKS! I love my EX1 but this thing feels like butter in my hands and my creative juices are flowin'! Oh, the possibilities! The form factor is what I'm used to in the wilds, so now being able to capture moving images with all my familiar lenses and filters has me in a frenzy!

I'll share some clips when I can get out into the wilderness with this thing in my pack, which shouldn't be long. Plus being able to take 21 heckapixel images, I can blow up prints for a billboard! Gracias El Canon-o!

I got mine from B&H. It's hard to find it in stock there but I watched closely and ordered it as soon as it showed in stock (still got an email saying it was out again but at least you're in front line to get the next shipment). I love this camera!

Got my second one in yesterday from Calumet. $2629 and free shipping..I was pleased..Long time customer..Did yours come with the latest firmware installed? Thanks.

It is ridiculous how good the camera looks.

I am sending my Nikon primes off to RP lens for the cinema conversion today.

At this point, whether canon give us 24p or not, not having to deal with the light loss, and gigantic camera and adapter rigs, not being harrased by the cops while shooting my films is well worth the trouble of converting out the box ready footage to 24p.

Maybe if you're on a mac, but i have yet to see a good way to do it on pc that doesn't involve after effects.

Buck! Congratulations on your new camera. Mine came in this Monday :)

I know you from the FM forum and emailed you about JMT last summer. What part of the Sierra will you be bringing back HD footage of? I can't wait to take mine on the trail.

What's this cinema conversion?

To match with standard motion picture matte boxes and clamp-on shades.

# Rubber 80 mm push-on caps are used and the set is delivered In a new

Hey Loc, thanks! As for which part of the Sierra... as much as I can! I'll probably start with some easier access areas like Little Lakes Valley, maybe over to Pioneer Basin, depending whether my little boy is with me or not.

squig, thanks for the links... I'm still torn! I prefer the size and weight of the Merlin for hiking, but I have the EX1 and the MKII and the Blackbird works for both of them and the Merlin seems to reject the EX1's weight. The Merlin also wins for shooting lower shots (flying over wildflowers) while the Blackbird seems to have an akward "T" bar hanging down low which might be tough on rough trails. The Blackbird also appears to be easier to use and adjust, which I reeeally like. But if I was going for "easy", I would've gotten the GH1 over the MKII, ha ha! :Þ

hehe yeah same, it's a tough choice as was the GH1 vs MKII decision. I need to use it in crowded places so the T bar could be a pain but I think the T bar would probably help a lot with the balance side to side.

Are you really gonna lug the EX1 around that much now that you have the MKII?

Well I'm still shooting both and seeing which is best for each type of shooting. My family went to our local town fireworks show on the 4th and I shot the fireworks with both and I liked the MKII's capture of the fireworks better than the EX1. The EX1 is easier to chase my kid around handheld (no stabilizer) because I can hold the handle low and watch through the flipout lcd. I'm going to Monterey/Big Sur coast this week and I'll be shooting them side-by-side. I'm really excited to try my GND filters on my MKII and shoot video like I do still photos in terms of balancing the light. Definitely on multi-day backpacking trips I'll be taking just my MKII.
