ok so i built this today after work with cable and everything plus the materials to build the rig for the cam my total spendings was $140 and i tested it to on a 20 foot cable i didnt shot any footage yet, but it was super smooth and stable and the weight was distributed perfect balance was fine and yea i have 125 feet of cable to film this shot for a bmx video on a long set of jumps. and will be doing it soon and show the footage but heres a pic of the rig i made it big so u can see everything the rig can move at a bunch of different angle and is awesome not just one straight on shot u can move it left right up down yea im happy angle

ahhh, very cool! Looks familar too

I'm probably just being over cautious, but I've got lock-washers on the nut side of all my bolts. I would consider at least throwing one on the TOP bolt that is holding your U-arm.. It looks like you don't have much room to spare there, so you might need to get a longer bolt. Home Depot has a seperate section with custom nuts/bolts... look for the Wing Nut Bolt... this will make it easier for you to hand tighten it in the field.

How are the clothesline pulley wheels treating you? I got some considerable wobble from mine.. :-/

Cool, looking forward to checking out the footage!

btw - how are you planning on stopping it?

ight cool thanks for the tip yea some of the wing buts have lock washers on the other side you just cant see them from this angle. but i will definatly invest in some of those washer. as for the footage ill post it up tonight so comeback at check it out its pretty cool. the pulleys did have much wobble at all as long as i started it with no sawyin or anythng it would be smooth the whole way down. as for stopping i jsut had someone at the other end but i would like to make it remote control like your did u ever refine your plan? jsut curious

ive never use a dvx, I was an xl1 man before i mved to the hvx how much more does the hvx weigh compared to the dvx? will this rig hold the hvx?

it would seem to me that if you made the top bar longer, and made the pullies wider apart it would be a smoother ride. what do you all think?

If any DIY type guy is looking for special wheels and/or bearings used on a dolly or pulley system, I may be able to help. I design and market dozens of skateboard wheels in different sizes, shapes, and hardnesses (durometers). Sizes range from 52mm all the way up to 130mm. Hardnesses range from 75a (super soft and smooth) up to 99a (very hard). The position of the bearing seats vary - sideset, offset, and centerset. I also designed an idiot-proof 608 style bearing that integrates a half-spacer and washer onto the inner ring, so you can just pop a bearing into each side of the wheel and tighten up the locknut without binding the bearings. You can use a 5/16" bolt for an axle.

Because I am a Downhill, Slalom, and Streetluge racer, I use the finest urethanes on the planet. Made in the USA (Huntington Beach, CA). Everyone in the pictures is on my wheels. I'm the guy in the prison striped outfit on the 6 wheeler.

I need a shot like this but with hopes of saving some money I will just pass my camera to my DP Bret Favre style... might ad a chute to slow it down so I don't kill my DP and have to finish the project without one... hummm..

either that or I'll borrow one of those dude's orange suits and the big helmet and go walk around the mall like I am the shizzle...

lol...

Nice mang! It loos safe enough, can't wait to see the footy
