Hi everybody:
After months deliberating on the best choice to invest my money, i decided to enter into HD100 club. It was no easy. I'm a beginner and the DVX100 has a good price for the used ones but here in Spain there is no market for this camera. Then i had two in mind: HVX200 and HD101 (the HD100 in Europe). The price, almost the same. HD101 has some issues, shoulder mount, tapes (cheap) and hard disk record. HVX200 has better codec (DVCPRO HD), no shoulder mount, and P2 (VEEERY EXPENSIVE) and hard disk record. But, the footage that i watched here (thanks to Stephenloe and Michael Pappas) from the HD100 has something special beyond all that tech specs, a "Super16 film touch" that i don't saw in other camera's clips (it's very subjective, of course).
My work is focused on filmmaking. I make an exhaustive search for the basic equipment and this is the list for the ones i already own:
a) Tripod: Manfrotto kit 516/515MVB
The 516 is a real fluid head and can support a 35mm adapter. Cartoni Focus seems a better option, but it's most expensive and very difficult to find it in Spain.
b) Battery: Globalmediapro DC488
A cheap option for a long life battery if u don't want to invest in an Anton Bauer Gold Mount. The one that comes with the camera lasts 30-40min.
c) Tapes: Sony Digital Master
The most expensive. Don't know how well they work yet.
d) Audio: Senneheiser K6/M66 kit
A kit with the micro, wind shield, mount and boompole. From B&H Photo. The M416 is a better option, but too much for my pocket.
e) Filters:
A UV Filter to protect the lens, a ND Filter (8x) to open the iris when shoot outside and a Red Filter 25 to shoot in B&W.
f) Bag:
One made by Lowerpro for the XL1S. Not the best, sure, but enough.
g) Lights:
That's a world itself. Don't know too much about that (yet).
And.....here we gooooooo!!!!
Thank you all for this great (and very useful) forum.
