My alternative to using a wireless mic...also a great field recording solution

While planning to record interviews on a trade show floor, I was considering whether I needed a wireless mic -- something I didn't really want to buy. I ended up purchasing a belt holster meant for a DSLR with a 1/4 20 thread on the end of it and connecting it to my H4N. Then I connected a Rode Lav to one channel (for the interviewer) and an Audio Technica handheld dynamic on the other (for the guest). It worked pretty well. I think this set up will be good for radio interviews too. The clip was only $20.

I do not have a vested interest in the clip company. It just solved a problem I had when I didn't want to buy a wireless.

I got it at BH. Here is the link if you are interested (Search for DOBCC on the BH site if link doesn't not work).

Hope it helps someone.

Clever. Thanks for sharing that BKM (Best Known Method).

Remember to also monitor the signal while recording. Use ear-buds if full headphones would be awkward.

Nice. In a pinch, could be useful to a boom op running straight into Zoom. Trying to think what other devices would have that mount and potential benefit from being on a belt or strap.....

I use the same basic setup for my boom ops, and at weddings I use wireless mics run to a recorder clipped to my belt. My clip is a little less professional though; I just bent a piece of metal used in a wrist brace and installed a bolt. Of course if you don't have an appropriate piece of metal laying around the link costs less.
