My AF-101 needs already to be serviced

No need to be so literal - You black balance off the top of the day when you set your white balance, I'll also do it everytime during the day if I reset the white.

Once a day is what I'm used to on other cameras. I was just going by what Jan said.

+1. It's just a few extra seconds, you don't even have to remember to do it, you just do it whenever you set your white balance...

If it's something that benefits the quality of the picture, every time the camera is powered on (which could be several times throughout the day), it seems to make sense that it should be part of the camera's boot sequence. No, it's not a hassle to push a button for a few seconds. Yes, it is a hassle to remember to do it every power cycle during a hectic day of shooting. But for now, it seems doing it even once can land us with the discoloration, so I guess I won't do it all for now.

This is not true as far as discoloration being the outcome, in fact it is more likely that the colors will be off by not doing this.. I have BB my AF100 many times and it is just fine. I cannot explain mediacleaners experience, but you should black balance. Read page 43 of the Operations manual. This you can download from our website. http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/includes/pdf/AG-AF100P_OI.pdf

mediacleaner should go have his camera checked.

Best,

Jan

I've got to tell you I don't understand how black balancing the camera is a hassle. Cameras costing ten times the price of an AF100 require the same thing. It's just part of doing the job. It's like white balancing, focusing and setting your aperture- it should just be second nature. Just get into the habit of pushing the button and everything will turn out just fine. Five seconds is worth putting into the effort if it means quality video at the end of the day.

Then perhaps the discoloration is user error as Barry suggested, improperly white balancing?

Agreed. Work within the limitations of the gear.

How can it be that at least two persons (Read the 1 post) have exactly the same problems? I think i will send mine to service. I really hoped that this is just a question of a user error. By the Way is this the Forum for "Never use Black Balance again"? I thought its about Users like me facing a Problem and asking for help. But i will only post again if i have a Solution.

the tint problem is solved

the tint problem is solved

today our panasonic service told us that they will receive an internal firmware update right from japan tomorrow. this will fix the often complained tint problem. we expect our camera to be back next week. i will report as soon as we have it back home.

The firmware fix for the green tint would be great!

I have to say though this is a very, very minor issue for me. I know that this on-board monitor is not intended to be 100% accurate. It works great for me. If they fix it great, if not, I still LOVE MY AF100!

I' m not sure if this will fix the green tint problem. We sent our af 101 to service cause of the same issues which are mentioned in the first post. but we will see next week. i' m glad that panasonic is addressing this issue so fast.

For those that were getting poor results in actual footage using a white card to manually balance (per the original posters problem) - did the firmware update fix the issue or was it a hardware problem requiring correction by Panasonic.

Cheers guys!

I'm having some serious green/yellow tint skin issues recorded in, and in the monitor and have battled them for a while. Has this been fixed yet, or not?

I have never had other problems of WB, ***but*** the problem is stille there if I use my WB card and expecially if the card is near the lens. If I use a long focal lens and if I balance some other white surface distant from the lens, the WB is OK. Second: take into account that, expecially when you use cine-like gamma, overexposed areas tends to green/yellow. ***With cine gamma use max 55 IRE on caucasian faces*** (you can check by waveform or Y-get). Let me know if these 2 tips solve your issue

Regards

Gary
