my 24p footage looks like a mosaic

Used my new 100b in squeeze mode at 24p up at Lake tahoe yesterday...unfortunately the footage all looks like it has some sort of mosaic pattern running through it! i know this is probably some setting I am missing (I hope) if I hook up the camera with the same settings to an external monitor and shoot it looks fine....the playback fron the tape looks good on my computer and on the cameras display but is mosaiced on my external monitor (4:3 aspect) I did try it on my widescreen with the same problem....could someone please tell me what I am missing here?
many thanks
Steve

Normally a mosaic is from a bad tape, but you say the footage looks fine on tape, and when viewed on your computer it looks fine. When you view it on an external monitor, are you going directly from your camera to a monitor, or are you using an editing program?

Hello Kevin, the mosaicy looking pattern (actually looks more like the video has been laid over a brick wall pattern) is present when my camera is hooked directly to a monitor....and even after its been downloaded to my computer and played back through Premiere pro 2.0...dont think its the tape as I also shot in the Sparkle setting and squeeze and that footage looks good from the same tape....am I supposed to do something to 24p footage for it to be seen correctly when viewed? I am brand new to the 24p world!
many thanks
Steve

If you shot squeeze at 24p, then the intent was probably to edit and create pure 24p anamorphic widescreen DVD's, right? Edit a bit of footage and export to DVD, watch it through your DVD player so it displays with the correct aspect ratio, and not in 4:3. It should look fine.

How are you connecting from your camera/computer to external monitor? Composite? S-video? Component? If it is composite, that could be the problem right there.

Steve could you post a screen grab of the problem? Sometimes a bad tape can produce a venetian blind effect, these dropouts are usually at the beginning of a clip, this doesn't normally last the whole tape. This often happens when recording over previously recorded footage.
Premiere Pro 2.0 will handle your 24p footage fine, and you don't need to do anything different to view the footage properly.
