MxR express card issue

Hello

I have used ex1r with MxR (with sandisk ultra 64gb) for 9 months with no issue.

However, 2 days ago the adapter just decided to stop working. It seems like the adapter cannot be recognised by ex1r and macbook pro in any way (but sxs and sandisk work fine after stick to laptop without adapter)

It's weird because the day before it stopped working, i shot latest scenes with it and transfered footages to macbook then put it back in ex1. But the next day the camera did not show the media on the screen.

I tried to do disk utility in mac but mac cannot detect the card via the adapter.

I dont know how to solve the problem.

Thank you

I dont know how to solve the problem.

Thank you

I say this with all due respect...and not just to you personally but to so many others who choose to use adapters instead of straight up SXS cards.

The problem is this. Penny wise and pound foolish.

Not an insult. But a quick way to point out the only reason you and others use these adapters is because you feel you save money.

Is it worth it?

How much money was saved when you lose footage? And why was the footage lost? Because a decision was made to go a short-term, less expensive route.

I am not trying to beat up on you or others about adapters. But...it seems like so many, and this is said in a very general sense, are willing to spend good money on a good camera...then go cheap. That kind of plan always causes problems in the future which could have been avoided. Problems which can be fatal if one really is counting on the camera to work consistently well.

I know this is kind of a thread hijack...forgive me...but odds are you wouldn't have had this problem if you'd used SXS cards in the first place.

All it takes is a quick trip to the search function here and you will see how common problems are with these card adapters.

Yes, SXS cards fail once in a great while but...no where near as often as these adapters do.

Please don't take this as a personal attack. It's an issue I see raised here all the time and seeing your question about "how to solve the problem" just made me think...it's a problem you created yourself by not thinking long term and investing in SXS cards in the first place.

I appreciate and understand we all have different budgets to live and work with. However people should have their eyes wide open when they make a quick choice to save some money now...then experience problems later on.

Lensmith is right... but...

1. Try connecting the SDHC card to a standard consumer USB card reader. Trying to read the SDHC contents to the computer through the SxS adapter is unreliable. If the SDHC card is dead... well, good thing you already got your footage off. Decide whether to buy a new one... or to buy a real SxS card, and move on.

2. If the SDHC card reads correctly through other hardware, but not through the adapter, well... then your (what? $50?) adapter is broken. Buy a new one and move on. Or buy real SxS cards.

Just be glad the failure occurred when you didn't have any data on the cards that needs to be recovered.

Hello,

Ross Herewini from E-films contacted me to replace the adapter for me.

I got new one.

Thank you for fast response and best service.

I want to warn others about SxS-SHDC adaptors. They're fine for recording footage you won't mind losing. But for once in a lifetime, if you lose it you're dead stuff....not a great idea.

I started having problems with one of my adaptors. Actually, it's the memory card that's messed up. Why? Pushing it in and out of the spring adaptor has caused the casing on the card to crack. Yep...not something I'm seeing on the genuine SxS cards from Sony.

Sure, you pay a premium but what is peace of mind worth?

This is the second time I've asked this. Is there anything I can do to get the older white background with black text back fro this board? Black text on a Navy Blue background is AWFUL!

Hi Adam. Check at the very bottom left of the page and see if the pulldown menu is set for VB4 1.1. That profile displays as white text on a dark grey background here using Firefox.
