MXF to MOV

Hello,

I did not yet have FCP 5.0.4 when I did my first shoot with my new HVX-200 so I imported the Contents from each of my P2 cards onto my computer. Now that I have FCP 5.0.4 and tried to Import the P2 footage from those folders it says that "The Selected Path Does Not Contain a P2 volume." I see the MXF files in the folder but cannot import them to convert them to MOV files from which to edit. I really need this footage. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can use this footage. I am very open to any advice. Thanks so much.

You are probably at the wrong path level.

If you selected the CONTENTS folder you are at the wrong level. Select the next level up the tree.

I copied the "Contents" folder onto my hard drive without the txt file. Is there anyway to still get access the clips without having that file? I tried recreating a text file after doing quite a bit of experimenting (copying a txt file from another P2 capture that shot the same amount of clips and renaming the files to reflect the info from that txt file but to no avail). Any help would be greatly appreciated as this footage is really important.

Yeah, that's the problem. Unfortunately, you need that pointer file. I don't want to say anything definite because I'm not an expert on how that whole file system works, but from the information I've been able to gather, it's essential to have that file in order for FCP to rewrap your MXF files. Maybe there's a PC program that can read the files directly without it... does anyone here use Avid or Canopus and can verify it?
