MXF question

I read that Cineform or Raylight or some intermediate codec is needed to convert DVCPRO-HD footage so that some NLE besides Edius can work with it. Is this true for the HVX's other recording formats (DV, DVCPRO50)--can either of these be edited directly in Vegas or Premiere w/o using a plug-in? I was unclear if these recording formats also had the .mxf extension.
Thanks to whoever responds!

Vegas requires some sort of intermediary.

Premiere can either be native (if using Axio) or requires an intermediary.

EDIUS, FCP, Liquid and Avid don't need any other intermediary product.

How do you go about getting HVX footage into vegas, the new vegas takes mxf files I guess(I don't own it but am thinking about upgrading)? I don't own an hvx but I'm considering getting one and want to make sure it won't be too much of a pain to edit footage on vegas with it.

As for the original question I'm not sure but I'm curious as to the answer too, can you get an mxf file out of the camera?

Vegas only takes Sony's proprietary MXF format. They specifically do not accept the MXF format used by Panasonic (and Leitch and Grass Valley and Liquid and everyone else).

You would have to use a converter program to work with Vegas.

Regular mini dv from the hvx would be editable on vegas. I believe you asked that question as well. But, that's it. Everything else is recorded to p2 and would have the mxf extension.

Does Premiere become MXF native ONLY with the Axio?.... If I were to say, get a BlackMagic card like the Decklink HD card. Is there an app specific to Axio that allows you to import .mxf's?.... I heard you could use Kona cards too... but I could be mistaken.
