I'm having major problems importing P2 files into Xpress Pro (v.5.8) and cannot figure out why. I shot on an HVX and saved copies of all the P2 card offloads (maintaining the same file structure, etc) on the media drive of my system. I imported a few cards worth of material into Avid (using the "Import P2" command) to practice with and everything was fine. When i went to bring in all of the clips for the project to officially start editing, which was about 100 clips contained on nine virtual P2 cards, problems started.
When I would use the "Import P2/Clips to Bin" command, Avid would only import a handful of the clips from the targeted virtual P2 card (like a third of the clips on the card or something), and even worse, it would import a bunch of clips from other virtual P2 cards (ones that i had previously imported but had nothing to do with the current targeted virtual card for import). And then, as I continued to try to figure out the problem, things got even weirder - when i would import to a selected bin, it would import to multiple other unselected bins as well - essentially "replacing" existing clips in existing bins!
I tried to go back to the old-school way of bringing in the MXF files using the Media Tool, but that also turned into a disaster. I deleted all the existing bins/clips out of the project to start fresh, deleted all the media files (including the directories) from the Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 folder, and literally copied all the video and audio MXF files from all of the virtual cards for the project. However, after starting up Avid and going to the Media Tool to run the search function for that drive, it only shows me 37 clips, despite the fact that there are currently 98 clips in the MediaFiles folder (each with one file for media and 4 files for audio).
This whole thing is bizarre and really, really frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this? I have searched through many online forums but haven't seen anyone post about my specific issue(s).
My system specs are: Dell Precision 670, single Xeon 3.2gHz (1MB L2 Cache), 2GB DDR2 SDRAM memory, nVidia Quadro FX 1300 (128MB) graphics card, 2 internal hard drives (160GB and 400GB SATA non-raid).
All 98 clips show up and play fine on P2 viewer, so i know it's not the media causing the problems. I did get an error message during one of the early imports, but it was an "Access Violation" error, and i think i took care of it by going in and altering the sharing/permissions settings so that all users had access to the files/folders (which also helped me because without doing that i wasn't even allowed access to copy/move the MXF files in the Avid MediaFiles folder). The only other thing worth mentioning is that all of the clips were shot with a RedRock and were originally upside-down, so I "flipped" them with Raylight MXFX before import was attempted. I thought that Avid could be getting confused with the fact that the original "upside-down" versions were still on the hard drive, so I deleted the upside-down "twins" from the drive, but it didn't help.
Hope someone can chime in... thanks
