MXF Files

Hey... I was working on a edit and the MXF files took up 82gigs worth of hard drive space, leaving my mac book at 13gigs left. I know with final cut i do not have to convert the footage to MXF. is there a way where i can not use that much space? im new to avid... so this is making me want to jus stick to final cut...

Are you saying your footage wasn't MXF to begin with? Every NLE has some format it likes, I'm sure it's not Avid alone that makes it take that much. If you're going to be doing video editing you really need more than 100GB spared for it.

You don't mention the resolution of the footage or your Avid compression settings. To better manage the space requirements for your project you can use the Avid widget below to determine how much hard drive space you'll need depending on the project/compression settings.

Why not get another hard drive? A nice firewire external...even BUS POWERED like the G-drive MINI. Throw all the footage on that. PLENTY of space.
