I was shooting some stuff over the weekend onto a 4GB p2 card.
I did not take along my laptop so I had to off load my p2 card content on to a friends laptop and burn a DVD. The trouble is I now have two files one Audio and the other Video. But I cannot import either of these files into FCP 5.2.1.

Can anybody help me rescue my footage.

Kind regards

if you copy over all the folders and the "lastclip" file, you should be able to point FCP to it as a P2 import. FCP will then do the conversion for editing.

Honest Liar, you screwed up when you transferred the P2 card contents to the laptop. In order for FCP to recognize P2/MXF material, you have to preserve the entire P2 card structure without renaming anything or leaving out folders you think aren't needed.

On the laptop, you should have a small text file called LASTCLIP.TXT, and a folder named CONTENTS with a number of other folders beneath that.

You might be able to salvage the audio and video using P2 Log. If you have access to a PC, you can also use the Serious Magic DVCProHD Decoder / Batch Converter to convert the MXF files to QuickTime files -- the Batch Converter only needs the MXF files from the VIDEO folder.
