muzzle flash test / question

So here's my first muzzle flash test done in FCP with a little photoshop. I think it's decent but I'd like to make it more realistic.

How do I add some light and grain to the local area of the flash? Like the shirt, face and maybe wall.

thanks

Oh, also, I'm not very fluent in AE so if you can provide some detail instruction I'd be really greatful.

Thanks fellas!

Jay - i'm not the guy to help you with this, but just wanted to say that was pretty damn funny. Not what I expected at all as your test footage.
:)

Nice job.

EDITED TO ADD:
Just watched that tutorial - great link Sean!

Looks pretty good. Footage was very good. The muzzle flash was not long enough (muzzle flashes usually are a lot longer and wider than that), and didn't cast light on the surrounding objects. It was also too clean, edges too defined. Some nice blur and stretching would help.

But as a test, I think it went pretty well.

That's exactly what I've been trying to learn how to do. Was online for almost 6 hours last night trying to find the best way to do it.

Anyone want to fill me in on the know how?

EDIT: Just to be clear, I couldn't follow the link above as I'm not familiar with masks in AE.

If you plan on doing any real work in AE, you'd better take the time to learn them.

Masks aren't hard. You take the pen tool, click or click and drag (if you want smooth points), and draw a shape. When you get back to the first mask point you made, the mask is done and you have isolated that part of the layer.
