Must-read DSLR overview article by Adam Wilt

Over on the Pro Video Coalition website, Adam Wilt has just published a fairly comprehensive overview of popular HD-capable DSLRs, or "versacams" as he calls them.

Adam covers the GH1 (and 5DM2, 7D, etc.) in quite a bit of detail, gives a good summary of the benefits of the GH13 firmware hack, and even mentions the GH2 at the end, too.

Considering how broad the topic of HD-DSLRs has become, Adam does an extraordinary job describing the current state of the art, and hints at the good things to come. I'm a long-time fan of Mr. Wilt's writing, and this article is another great example.

Highly recommended reading!

Furthermore, no versacam can span a clip across multiple files, so once you’ve written 2 or 4 GB to a card, recording simply stops. If you’re coming from the film world of, say, 11 minute loads, you’ll be fine with this. If you’re used to hourlong takes on tape, disk, or multiple solid-state cards, well, you’ll have some mental readjustment to do.
Still reading the GH1 manual, but isn't this wrong ? Even my cheap Aipteks will span multiple files, 2gb each...

GH1 uses AVCHD which spans MTS clips. With the NTSC version of the cam, you can record until you hit your card limit

The GH1 dosn't have that horrific limitation. It makes multiple 4 gig files until the memory card runs out unless you have either a non-hacked European GH1 or a European GH2, then in that case, the recording will stop in the 30 minute mark.
