Must haves for new DVX?

I'm looking at what I'd need for a new DVX100 over and above the camera so I can price out the true cost of setting up. Is there a list of some "must haves" that you guys think are really necessary. Of course I'd assume more battery power (What one) but anything else?

I'll be shooting a mix of narrative shorts and doco/newsy stuff.

Cheers
Aaron

As for the battery pick up the DVXuser 5000mah battery that can be purhased right here on this site....$69 plus s/h. (http://www.dvxuser.com/articles/battery/)

Get a good camera case...I found mine on ebay....awesome looking black and dark grey w/ silver trim aluminum case, matches the dvx perfectly. Check it out by searching on ebay for....Panasonic DVX100A EXTREME PRO CASE...runs for about $50 plus s/h.

If you're doing alot of outdoor shooting pick up the cinetactics mattebox...(http://cinetactics.com/mb100m.php)

And don't forget the anamorphic adapter if you're doing a film out or trying it out for i-film or something of the like.

Thanks MrBlonde.

Is the DVX much thicker than say an XM2? I have an aluminium case that fits my XM2 at the moment but it just gets in there I think.

.

i have an extra case just like this one. i always thought it was to shallow for the dvx.

can you send me a pic of how you have the case setup for your dvx?

Hows that case working out for you mr.blonde? I hesitated to buy one cuz i thought it would be a piece of ****...

follow the link in my signature to Barry Green's book. You may find it helps you unleash the unfathomable powers of the DVX. :)

my shooting partner used the dvxuser batteries (the BIG ONEs) and his only comment was "why didn't we get these sooner?"

you get a lot of juice in just one. but if you want it, ORDER NOW, because it takes a while, typically, for the orders to be filled. longer if you are in new zealand, probably.

in my opinion, people tend to blow a lot of dough on an "over the top tripod" when they are starting out. it will probably be a long time before you really are doing shots that justify the $800 and up set of legs. if you don't get the longest, most stunning pan for that * one * special move, --don't do it? or cut the pan in half.

enuf for now. good luck.

As far as your case for the gl2 goes, just check out the measurements of the DVX and compare it to those of your case, the gl2 is definitely smaller than the DVX though.

Marctronixx / No Ca$h - The camera fits snugly in the case, which I prefer. As long as you're not tossing the thing around like it was a gym bag you definitely have no worries, i'd recommend the case, not to mention it's very affordable. When I purchased it I was worried myself, but I surely wasn't going to spend an absurd $300, which is the average price for a good aluminum case at shops here in Los Angeles.

Marctronixx - What kind of case do you have now?

Pooh, if I get a DVX I'll definately get Barry's book that's for sure. I take it a lot of the stuff in the book will be fine for us PAL users?

blonde,

i have a pelican case that holds camera and accessories. i sometimes just want to take the cam and a couple bateries just to do some b shooting or just farting around on the steadicam/steadytracker. for that , i wanted to use this case but it looks too shallow for the dvx.. which is why i asked to see pics of yours. i have the shoutgun mic atachment ont he cam and i know that would have tro be removed to fit in the case.. thats to much work for me to do.. :)

Ah Aza...one thing I forgot....you should probably pick yourself up a lens filter to protect the glass. I got mine on ebay, lol yes ebay is the all mighty place for finding good stuff....I purchased the Hoya Super HMC Pro 1 uv 72mm. Be sure to get the uv filter not any other, the uv doesn't affect the image at all and protects the lens well. I chose the Super pro 1 because it's thinner than all the other filters, has double sided threading and a good amount of preotective coating as well. Should run you about $40 on ebay, or you can go to adorama.com or any other reputable photoshop...but it'll cost you about $70 at one of those places.
