Must have toggled something...

Apparently I turned off ... something. I'm working with text layers, and when I select them in my timeline, they don't get the border around them anymore. You know, the red rectangle that appears around them with the 6 boxes (2 far left corners, 2 in the middle, 2 far right corners). They just aren't there. It's not too big of a deal, but I'm using them for centering purposes, and it makes it a lot easier. I would google this, but I don't know what keywords I'm looking for.

What keystroke did I misfire, and how do I get it back? Sorry for the stupidity. Any help would be great.

Not in front of my desktop right now, but maybe you accidentally ungrouped the letters. IIRC, to group them again, just highlight the letters you want grouped and hit CMD+g (or choose it from the menu...sorry, forget which one). BTW, CMD+g will ungroup as well.

Keep in mind that I just woke up (after pulling an all-nighter) so I might be confusing AE with PS, or AI, or... :)

EDIT: the above is for Mac, for a PC it would be CTRL+g.

You hid the mask and shape lines.

Try CMD-SHIFT-H (or ctrl-SHIFT-H on a PC)

Or, just click the dotted "rectangle" symbol on the bottom of your comp.
