Late last year BMD introduced a few new mini converters and one of them was the SDI 6G to HDMI mini converter.
Why I think this is a very special box and very worth the money is that for under $200 not only is it a format converter, but it also allows 3D LUTs to be loaded into it. So for those times when you are working in S&Q (HFR) on the FS7/F5/F55 where you no longer have at the ability to view slog with the internal 3D LUTs (both on live monitor view and playback) this box will help to circumvent that problem - and not enough could be said about that plaguing issue on the Sony's.
You can also use it to add 3D LUT capability to the external signal when using slog gamma in custom mode on the FS7/F5/F55 which I think is kind of cool. This box would especially be useful for the FS5 since it has no capability of applying LUTs to video fed signals.
On the format conversion end of things, because Sony did not implement legacy support for 24p over HDMI (ie. they went with 24PsF instead and did not include 2-3 pulldown to convert 24p to 60i over HDMI) you can also use this box to convert SDI out from your Sony to HDMI and feed it to any legacy devices or standard monitors using HDMI. Just be sure to keep the mini converter next to the HMDI device and run a long SDI cable to camera from it. etc.
But wait there's more, apparently you can also embed audio from balanced AES/EBU or analog audio inputs in your feed too!
I just ordered mine and really looking forward to start using it.
