Musical Needs Critiques

Hey guys, so I made a short 7 min musical for Quest Fest: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=172751

But don't download that one. Syncing is off and shorter than the version I have linked below. I'm going to send this to some festivals very soon and need some critiques on post work. You can critique everything but no reshoots will happen. If you want to give me a giant review, go for it, I'd love to read it. I don't care if you hate it or love it, I just really need all the feedback I can get. Also, this was my first musical ever to make.

I myself don't necessarily get into musicals very much, but this seemed to come out good to me. I might have preferred to see the manager come back and change a bit, but I think there is some good stuff already. I might be totally off here, but it might be interesting to experiment with grayscaling certain parts and keeping the color for more of the "up" parts, like when the accepted stampers or whatever they are come in.

thanks for the feedback, but one thing about the color grade was that it can't be a certain color at a certain time if you caught that the film starts off dull and grey then it gets brighter and brighter. So if I popped a random bright spot in a happy scene it would completely ruin the film as it is.

Oh we saw this in LA! we loved it... Only thought the performance (which in musicals and Music videos can be hard) was a little weak during the end section...which it also maybe was just the hairest too long... after the bad guy had his come up ents... there seemed a little to long on the "de u mont"... ... there was a line about your eyes or something... and it looked like they whernt into it and not conecting...

oh and love for you to check the music video we just did cause directing musicans can be challangeing...

Hmm, okay, interesting work.

To be honest, it didn't really do it for me. I think a lot of it has to do with the concept itself. It felt everywhere. I mean it's about a girl having a boring life, a disgruntled boss, and a mail room boy who's in love. The story felt like it was going everywhere, and the focus was more on the singing than it was on the story.

I think one of the main things that bugs me is that a musical is meant to be BIG. Musicals are always BIG (usually, at least for the big happy songs). They dance, they have loads of extras, they cover several locations in just a few seconds. Yours stays in one place with 4 people and stays very grounded. But this may just be preference.

Then there's the fact that the music sometimes sounds sooo happy, but not everything is so happy. Especially the dull CC from beginning to end. It was contradicting itself. Yes you brighten it, but the colors are what's important, not just brightness.

I dunno, didn't do it for me. Acting wasn't anything great either, but it's forgivable. Camera work was fine. Editing was okay, except for the cut at 5:31 which wasn't great.

But others seem to like it, so good job.

I quite liked the music, and thought the voices were quite good. I perform in a lot of stage musicals, and don't really have a problem with something smaller scale.

The only thing that really bugged me was the location. The stock-standard indie film blank white walls :-P I know they're supposed to be in a depressing, soul-destroying job, but that doesn't mean the location couldn't have some kind of dressing, or even better, a larger room with a bit of depth. Set dressing would also make the increase in levels more dynamic.
