Re: Music videos innit.

I dunno if there is something wrong w/ my pc, but I couldn't get any of the vids to play....

Re: Music videos innit.

I think. Im going to shoot myself, you need the latest version of flash and Quicktime I should imagine, when you click load the videos should pop up, Im getting a worrying amount of reports that its broken which is BAD becuase Ive just pimped the site ALL over the web.

why?

??? :-[ :-[ :'(

it could also be a pop up blocker???

Re: Music videos innit.

realy sick Adam! I dug it a lot. I liked the Gorerotted a lot too. I liked the storyline as well. My favorite shot is the first real shot of the singer as he spews his first line. Its mint man. Looks great. Did you use the straight DVx lens?
I actually say that on Headbangers ball I thing a while ago. Not sure though, but I have seen it before. I love the angles you got!

Re: Music videos innit.

IDOG, so glad you liked the stuff man,
I shot the Blood red summer video with the dvx lens and also a wideangle called 'redeye' I got with the camera off ebays (1800quid 24hrs on the heads YES)

the gorerotted video was shot on a canonXm1 with a optics 'death lens' but you didnt want to know that.

so gutted I missed my film on headbangers ball!!
I might cry :D

anyway thanks idog, your stuff is rad.

Take it easy.

p.s if anyone else has problems or knows why the vids arent playing for some people, let me know ta.

Re: Music videos innit.

hello,
my friend was having problems watching the video on his machine, we downloaded the newest version of quicktime and it worked perfectly.
his was popping up the old player in the window and playing with sound but without video, some people say they cant even get it to pop up but it could be the same problem.
thanks again for the encouragement idog, everyone else is like "whatever" they must all be oscar winners. ;)

Re: Music videos innit.

Man...first off, the site is really cool. Grabbed a tin o' milk about 20 times laughing my ass off.

The videos are great, completely captures the sound of the bands...any more? Give us an update if you add to the site.

My favorite was the rabbit...good times. I think I'm going to watch it again hehe.

Re: Music videos innit.

Hardly a guru but heres my thoughts if I wanted to get nitpicky...

I assumed the video was supposed to have an overall dark feel but I think the quicktime did more than intended. I couldn't see what was in the shots at 1:11, 1:29, 5:05, 5:10, etc.

The zooms and rolling focus was good for this type of music but...at times the zooms looked controlled and motivated by the song and at other times a bit too much, same with the focus. The focus I felt needed to be played with a bit more sparingly and maybe complemented by some sharp close-ups. You did this a few times with the guitarist but I would have liked to see more. Maybe to add a little variety, its a bit too easy to just use the same style over and over.

Especially with the screaming lyrics I would have liked to see some close-ups of the mouth, bugged out or squeezed shut eyes, or popped out neck veins on the singer.

You really made the limited location work for you by using a lot of different angles. That was nice and I didn't feel trapped in the room.

The lighting looked good in general but I think it could have been a lot better if we either saw their faces or didnt. Either have the faces completely silhouetted or give them a controlled band of light to clearly see them, or a mixture of both. Being able to barely see them was a little annoying, looked a little muddy.

By about 1:30 I had forgotten the early images of the picture burning, the non-performance shots didn't pick up again until 3:18 which felt way way too long. Its a shame because I loved the shots of the guy in the bathroom. I wish there were more of them or they were better paced throughout to break up the monotony.

At 1:36 you held a shot for over 15 seconds. I could have gone along with half that because the song did slow a bit there, but at 15 seconds it kind of reset the pace. Made me think you just ran out of shots. Would have been a great time to reintroduce the non-performance shots of the guy in the bathroom.

The camera shake during the drum rolls was great. If you can't tell by now its really important to me that any movement or gimmick with the camera is motivated by the song or actions of the performers. You did that really well throughout a lot of the video.

The inclusion of the bassist (was that the bassist?) throwing his guitar (4:49) was sweet and didn't feel staged.

The shots of the tooth, bloody sink, etc, were great. The girl in the shower was perfection. All of those shots were beautiful and the effects used didn't feel cheesy at all.

In my opinion this kind of music is about the music and not the video, the video should just serve to amplify the performance and/or evoke empathetic emotions. I think you did a great job at that and nothing distracted me from the song or the feelings the song gave. You definitely did justice to the band.

Re: Music videos innit.

wow! thanks man, I really appreciate the feedback.
yeah the dark stuff was annoying, I was really pushing the boat out and quicktime pushed it over the edge, you can JUST see it on a telly kinda thing.

the spacing between the concept was too long, its because some earlier shots I took made it look too much like i was force feeding narrative so I just dumped them and went straight into the picture burning, It was the first time id ever shot live action narrative (i had done 'run rabbit run' a couple of years earlier, thats the only other time i really told a 'story' Ive been shooting skate videos.) But I didnt story board and flew into the whole thing with it in my head. bit silly.

I kept that really long shot in there just coz i got jammy with my home made dolly and I just plain loved it, thats my favorite shot of the whole film! yeah if i had of had more concept i would have probably cut it in around there.

thanks anyway dude :D

onwards and upwards! ;)

Re: Music videos innit.

The link just broke during the playback. But the rabbit one is pretty cool. :D
