Music Video

Here is a music video I shot recently with the HVX. I used the overcrank and unercrank features throughout the video. While I did a lot of color enhancing in After Effects for the outdoor scenes, on the indoor scenes I was able to get pretty vibrant colors in the camera. Let me know what you think.

:Drogar-Mark-04(DBG) I recently updated the above page to include both large and small file formats, plus links to the band's page, to my myspace page, etc. You can see more samples of my work with the HVX on the myspace page and on my website, www.boxcarfilms.com. Check it out.

The HVX200 can change the frame rate that it is shooting at -- that is what boxcarfilms was referring to when he mentioned overcranking and undercranking.

If you shoot at more than 29.97/25 fps for NTSC/PAL and play it back at the nominal rate, you'll get slow motion.

And yes, nicely done! Looks great!

Love it. Great song too. I think the video fits the song perfectly, and that's the biggest complement I can give.

I do wish the "fire" scene was lit a little better, though.

Great video!
How did you do the slomo lipsyncing...?

I've done it by speeding up the song for playback, and having the lead singer sing along to the chipmunk's ;)

It worked well for me.

I knew we would be shooting the slow motion scenes at 60 fps, or 2.5 times the normal rate of 24fps, so I sped the song up 2.5 times. The band then had to lipsync to the very fast version of the song, so that when the video was played back at 24fps the lips were in sync. For the fast scenes, I shot at 12fps, but I knew I would then speed that up even more in post to 6fps, or 1/4 the normal rate of 24fps. So I slowed the song down to 1/4 the normal speed and the band had to lipsync to the song very, very slowly.

It took a little tweaking in post to get it all to sync up, but most of the work was done during shooting. On the really fast motion scenes the band just had to sit very still for several minutes. Those guys were troopers.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I agree. I liked the song and thought that the music video fit really well with it. Great concept. I actually didn't have a problem with the lighting on the fire scenes, but did have a problem with it when the guy is pouring drinks at the bar or something. That shot just doesn't look like it's lit at all other than the 'practical' on the ceiling.

amazing colors. watched the whole thing and enjoyed the whole thing. Thanks... nicely done.

Thanks for all the feedback. We had a lot of fun coming up with the concept. I agree with aravance...I like how the lighting turned out on the exterior scenes, but we didn't have time to light the close-ups on the bartender because of our tight schedule. Those shots weren't really planned, we just added them on the fly.

Thanks again for the feedback, I enjoy posting on these forums and also seeing how others are using this great camera.

Good effort. Some nice framing and use of deep depth of field. Prefer the outdoor shots to the indoor as I think the CC sits tighter with the lighting.

Thanks for posting.
Pete.
