Music Video (Yes Another!)

I think the spot has potential, but the first half of the video has only three distinct shots (the overhead light, the microphone shot (which I really liked), and the blue nightclub shot. I think after a while that the intercutting between these three (with hardly any variance in size or style) became a little monotonous and would benefit from a more vaired palette of shots.

I still think that boths halves have good energy, and the charisma of the performer is there, but the spot needs a little more kick in terms of scope as most of the shots are one's, mediums or CUs of the rapper. Also, the exterior shots of the neighborhood (the second half of the video) needed more umph visually (try dropping your blacks and altering the color levels for a more hard, or gritty style). I think the color correcting in general can go a little farther in creating a specific style for the spot.

Can you go back for a day and do some pick-ups? I think this spot can be tightened up and finessed in the coloring aspect to make it pretty great. Regardless, the foundation of a good music video is definitely here.

Thanks for the feedback.

As far as coloring...I am a newbie to coloring and it took me a while to just get the club scene looking blue.

By the way...all the interior shots were shot in my dorm room lol.

But back to the point, yeah, it could use some more variance. I realized this afterwards but the artist was so happy with it (because his earlier stuff from others was ugly hand held crap) that he didn't mind. This is definitely a step up from my other stuff.

these boards are an excellent resource for learning the color correcting tricks - ask around and look for some examples that approximate the looks and moods you want and then post your questions about achieving these looks in camera or in your NLE's toolbox. Good luck!
