Thought I would share a music video I shot a few months ago. My first experience with the Voigtlander 25mm, and it was a joy to use (as if it needs more praise )
It's excellent. Smooth tones and grading. Vimeo version is free of banding too. Why do they keep picking fights with the strong man and always lose? Will you share how you graded it and what apertures were used on the lens?
Thanks Aki. It was graded wholly in Magic Bullet Looks. The main objective was to get a nice purplish hue, and that was achieved with the "Lift-Gamma-Gain" tool. Blue was adjusted in lift to about 1.3, and green to about 0.8. Then in the gain, blue down to 0.4 and green to 0.9 - and went to about 1.2 in the gamma. Strength to 75%. Outside of that, some desaturation and crushed blacks. Many vignettes throughout as well.
I shot wide open (f/0.95) on all the night shots - because I had to! My only light source was a 312 LED light panel (which came through very nicely btw). It was fully shot at 720p/60 at 1/125 shutter, so I needed to squeeze in all the light that I could. Optimally, I would have had more light available to raise the shutter on some twixtored shots, but I made do with what I had, and pushed the twixtor processing to a point where I felt it was acceptable. The day shots were quite open as well and shot with a Fader Mark II vari ND.
I tried to stay at or under 1600 ISO at night, but I know I strayed above a few times. So I did some noise removal on most of the night shots and added in some film grain to counter the plastic look that often results from noise removal.
As to the picking fights part, well, they are a stubborn group of guys I suppose.
Thanks for the info. Now it's interesting to view the video again when the filming and post processes are known. I think there were some very cinematic scenes and moments, especially when one character gets thrown at the thrash cans and the trash can is deformed. That must have required quite a bit of preparing, so real film making there.
